Domaine Courbis dates from the 16th Century and has been handed down from father to son since the start of the 20th Century. Today, Brothers Laurent and Dominique Courbis own 20 hectares of vines in Saint-Joseph. Wines from the northern part of St Joseph are more structured and riper than those from the sandier soils of the south. This wine was produced from a 1.1 hectare vineyard situated on granite terraces with an exceptional microclimate from 9 year old vines. Matured in 1 and 2 year-old oak casks to produce 'vin de garde'. Producing powerful wines with a world wide reputation, Domaine Courbis is estimated to be one of the best producers in the area and this is a lovely example of a full-flavoured St Joseph. A deep red coloured wine with a concentrated nose. Terrific concentration of ripe black fruits, it is structured, with firm tannins, good acidity and balance with an enjoyable finish. (12 x 75 cl)
