Manfredi purchased the estate in 1958 and worked on it throughout his life until he died in 1982 when his son Florio took over. Adopting many biodynamic methods and hand picking the fruit, great care is taken from the vineyard to the winery. Description: Podere Brancaia has been owned by the Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer since 1981. It is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area and in recent years Brancaia has won many international awards. The Brancaia estate encompasses the vineyards Brancaia and Poppi , at between 750 and 1300 feet above sea level. All vineyards have hillside location, looking south, southwest or southeast. A blend of 55% Sangiovese, 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the garpes are harvested by hand and aged two thirds in new, one third in used barriques for 18-20 months plus 4 months in the bottle.
