Principe Pallavicini TIASO Sangiovese IGT Lazio
Description: The Pallavicini family have been in Lazio since the second half of the 17th Century, and as such their story is linked with that of the region in a range of agricultural activities. The vineyards are situated in the picturesque hills south of Rome and on the Mediterranean coast next to the Tuscan border. There are currently 78 ha under vine but, due to strong demand from abroad for the wines, expansion is currently taking place. The sites are meticulously matched to the grape varieties, which is a mix of both traditional and international varietals. Among the principle white varieties can be found: Trebbiano Toscano, Malvasia del Lazio, Malvasia di Candia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Greco, Grechetto, Bonvino. While, the red cultivars include: Sangiovese, Cesanese, Merlot, Cabernet sauvignon, Montepulciano, Ciliegiolo and Petit Verdot. Today the traditions of the Pallavicini estate have been merged with the latest oenological practises ensuring the highest standard of wine production. The grapes are handled with great care as the 25 year old Sangiovese vines are managed to deliver reduced yields, undergo a prolonged maceration with the skins; and finally aged in cask. This care has produced an international styled wine, smooth with pretty berry and floral flavours leading to a velvety mouth feel while the tangy acidity keeps it fresh. (12 x 75 cl)

Luna Vineyards Sangiovese Napa Valley California
Description: In 1995, two seasoned wine veterans shared a vision for a distinctive Napa Valley winery that would produce wines in the artisan fashion of the Old World Masters. George Vare and Mike Moone were major influencers in the industry when they decided to launch Luna Vineyards. Together, they selected a prime piece of property at the southernmost end of the Silverado Trail and set about to transform it into a landmark winery. President Mary Ann Tsai heads a dedicated team in crafting Napa Valley wines of intricate character and exquisite taste, using techniques such as co-fermentation and natural yeasts to achieve distinctive results. Luna has achieved critical acclaim and is quickly becoming known for producing wines whose timeless attributes evoke a lifestyle of refined taste and sophistication. 'Full medium red. Sweet, high-toned aromas of dusty cherry, sappy blackberry and leather. Supple, dense and round, with a terrific core of blackberry and spices, with the wine's oak component in the deep background. Offers excellent grip without being at all hard or rigid. At once pliant and serious, with a satisfyingly fleshy, ripe finish. In sap and texture, this struck me as rather like a merlot/cabernet franc blend.' Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar. (12 x 75 cl)

Jackson Wine Estates PEPI Sangiovese California
Description: From the Jackson Wine Estates comes the Pepi range of wines. The Pepi Winery is an innovator and pioneer in the quality production of Italian varietals in California. Well-known for crafting the quintessential California Sangiovese, stellar Sauvignon Blanc, and crisp Pinot Grigio it also produces highly-acclaimed Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. Innovative and stylish the 'four surf board logo' is a representation of this range of wines. Committed to using environmentally sound vineyard practices along with an unpretentious style of winemaking the aim is to create everyday wines with intensity and focus. This Sangiovese dominated wine has a little Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Zinfandel added and in the winery it spent 6 months in French and American oak, while Winemaker Pat Pickett considered: 'Balanced, bright and harmonious with flavours of black cherry, cocoa and spices framed by dusty tannins. Aged for more than six months in French and American oak puncheons to reduce the wine to oak ratio and preserve the delicate, spicy fruit. In Chianti-like fashion, it’s bone dry, light and elegantly structured. The fruit’s delicate spicy flavours complement the aromas of cherry pie and nutmeg .' (6 x 75 cl)

Castello Banfi COL DI SASSO Sangiovese Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT
Description: In 1978 John and Harry Mariani, successful American importers, joined forces with Italy's leading enologist, Ezio Rivella; their objective was to produce top-quality wine on a scale never before attempted in Italy. Castello Banfi is a rarity among Italian wine estates, not just because of its size , its composition of single vineyards, or its state-of-the-art winery, but because it was started from scratch a little over 25 years ago. At that time the Mariani Brothers were looking for an estate where the climate and soil had to be ideal for the cultivation of many of the world's noble grape varieties, and it had to be within a region of Italy that already had a tradition of quality winemaking. The 4,500 acres that the Mariani Brothers first found were near Montalcino, and eligible for the status DOCG of Brunello di Montalcino, one of the most prestigious of all Italian wines and it met the other criteria as well. By good luck the adjacent estate, of 2,600 acres, became available shortly afterwards and in 1984 the 11th century castle was the final purchase, and the estate was renamed Castello Banfi. Today Castello Banfi is producing a wide range of wines including Brunello di Montalcino that was Italy's first wine to be accorded D.O.C.G. status, a testament to its aristocracy, balance and fabulous proclivity for ageing. Col di Sasso, which translates to 'Stony Hill' is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese grapes cultivated on the most rocky and impervious slopes of the Banfi estate in Montalcino, Tuscany. Typically harvested in early October, each grape variety is vinified separately with the Sangiovese imparting body, while stainless steel aged Cabernet Sauvignon adds fruit and structure. Intense ruby red colour this wine has fresh aromas and flavours of cassis, plum, and cherry with hints of green bell pepper. Well structured with balanced acidity the rich juicy fruit of the Cabernet Sauvignon is well-balanced by the soft tannins and structure of the Sangiovese. Available in half bottles. (12 x 37.5 cl)
