Vina Falernia Cabernet Sauvignon Elqui Valley Chile
Description: A new winery founded in 1995 by Aldo Olivier Gramola in collaboration with Italian enologist Giorgio Flessati, Vina Falernia is located in the Elqui Valley between La Serena and Vicuna, 470 km to the north of Santiago and it is at present Chile's northernmost wine estate. With the majestic Andes as a backdrop, their peaks gleaming white all through the summer, the vineyards benefit from currents of cold air which descend from the high mountains at night. The soils in the vineyards are composed partly of rubble which has eroded from the Andes mountains and deposited by glaciers and wind, and partly of alluvial sand and silt deposited by the river. While stony, gravely soils are regarded as poor for most crops, their excellent drainage qualities make them perfect for wine growing. The winery is located in the Vicuna area and is equipped with state of the art technology. The grapes were hand-picke then de-stemming and crushing occurs. Fermentation took place on the skins in stainless steel tanks at 26-28°C, breaking the cap 4-6 times a day for the first week. After the malolactic fermentation the wine was matured in French and American new oak barrels for 8 mounths. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon has a bright and deep in colour with red fruits and spicy aromas. (12 x 75 cl)

Errazuriz THE BLEND Aconcagua Valley Chile
Description: This fruit-driven new blend, which bursts with ripe berries and black cherries flavours backed up by well-integrated French and American oak. Well-structured and perfectly balanced wine, full on the palate with lingering but supple tannins that finishes nicely with a touch of spices. Each of the four varieties used in this blend i.e. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Sangiovese and Carmenère were carefully hand picked at their peak between early April and mid-May. All varieties were vinified separately with controlled temperatures and received daily pump-overs for a total maceration time of 20-30 days. The resulting wines were aged separately, and approximately two-thirds of the final blend was oak-aged, mostly in French oak barrels. The different fine grape varieties used in crafting The Blend wine were sourced from varied parcels of our Don Maximiano Estate located in the Aconcagua Valley, where hot summer days are cooled by afternoon breezes. The core components of The Blend wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. These two varieties come from vineyards planted on a 5º slope with gravely, sandy clay soils which drain very well. Both vineyards feature drip irrigation, high-density planting and vertical trellis systems. Sangiovese and Carmenère complement the blend. Sangiovese vines were planted in 1994 with mostly R24 clone, also called Sangiovese Piccolo, which features small berries and intense berry fruit characters. The Carmenère portion of the wine comes from a different parcel of the Estate, also located in the Aconcagua Valley. Canopy management is particularly important with this late-ripening variety, since sun exposure on the berries is critical for achieving the transition from strongly vegetal aromas to the rich, ripe, complex fruit that characterizes the best Carmenère.
