Chateau Fortia TRADITION RED Chateauneuf du Pape
Description: The Domain Chateau Fortia, is one of the oldest of Chateauneuf du Pape. History has it that it used to be an outbuilding of the pontifical castle where the cardinals kept their stables. The domaine took importance when Hercule de Fortia d'Urban took it over. The count of Ripert Monclar wrote in his essay entitled , The Life and Works Of The Marquis Of Fortia of Urban published in 1843 that it was a lovely little hermitage. The lands registry of 1763 offers further proof with the mention of a small farm belonging to the marquis of Fortia maintained on a share-cropping system. However, this Chateau has another important role in history. During the early 20th Century Baron Pierre Leroy, through marriage, became the head of the estate. Due to the deteriorating quality of the Chateauneuf-Du-Pape wines in general, the Baron drew up a charter that became the basis for the AOC wine law system. Today, the Chateau maintains the spirit of the AOC wine laws and after a manual harvesting and a compulsory sorting, , the grapes are transported in small crates in order to ensure their arrival at the cellar in the best of conditions. The harvest is then destemmed and more or less crushed depending to the year; due to differences in maturity the grape-varieties are vinified separatly in 150hl concrete tanks equipped with a cooling system. Vatting lasts 20 to 25 days depending on the year and then the wines are put in 20 to 40hl stock vats to go through a second fermentation and then racked. The various grape-varieties are assembled and put in stock vats for ageing between 12 to 18 months depending on the vintage. The wines are then put in meshed metallic tanks where they are fined and filtered before bottling. Finally, they are stored for several months before release. Classic Chateauneuf (6 x 75 cl)

Francis Ford Coppola DIAMOND COLLECTION Red Label Zinfandel California
Description: Since its inception, the Francis Coppola Diamond Collection has been an expansive endeavor to create consistently high-quality wines that are pure expressions of each varietal. They sought out vineyard sites across California, which would ensure superior grapes year-after-year, and employ precise winemaking techniques to showcase the true character of the fruit. 'Winemaking and filmmaking are two great art forms that are very important in the development of California. They both start with raw ingredients-in the case of wine, the land and the grapes, and in the case of film, the script and the actors' performances. The winemaker takes these raw materials and ferments and blends. He says yes to this batch, no to that one. The director does the same thing: a series of yeses and nos, from casting and costuming to edits and sound mixes. In both cases you have to start with top notch raw materials-whether it's the land or a script.' -Francis Ford Coppola (6 x 75 cl)

Chateau Cissac Cru Bourgeois Haut Medoc
Description: The first traces of the building that is now Chateau Cissac and the village of Cissac go back as far as the Romans. In fact, the village of Cissac was a relatively important Roman settlement. Tombs have been found in the village and in the grounds dating from the period of Merovee, the father of Charlemagne. However, the house as we know it today dates from 1769 and Chateau Cissac extends over 50 hectares. It is from these vines that the Grand vin Chateau Cissac and its second wine, Reflets du Chateau Cissac are produced. The vines are about 30 years old with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot grape varieties grown on fine gravel over chalk. Each vine variety does not produce similar quantities each year. However, the proportions on the various single-variety wines that are assembled to make Chateau Cissac are strictly respected. There are ten huge wooden vats at Chateau Cissac, constructed in the great Medocain tradition. The hand picked grapes are Vinified in oak vats under temperature control then the wine is matured 18 months in barrels of which 30 to 40% are new. A Well-known traditional styled Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois with plenty of oaky character, strength and a good finish. Available in Original Wooden Case. (12 x 75 cl)

From grandfather Giacomo's tiny vineyard, the Tommasi estate has grown steadily and now extends over 135 hectares of hillside vineyard blessed by mother nature, not only by a magnificent landscape, but more importantly by its perfect suitability for grapes. Matua Valley BULLRUSH Merlot Hawke's Bay NZ
Description: Pleasant aromas of integrated oak and ripe black currants dominate the entry into this fine Merlot. The palate consists of black cherry and blueberry flavours with a spicy edge. The finish is soft and rich with grainy tanning and a layer of spicy oak, which lingers subtly. The fruit selected to produce this fine Merlot was grown in the Hawkes Bay region, on the East coast of New Zealand. The Bullrush vineyard is situated in the red metals triangle area, which is renown for its red metal soils and production of high quality red wine varieties. The vineyard uses vertical shoot positioned trellis on which to train the vines and these are pruned to maintain a production of three to four tonnes per acre. Leaf removal in the fruit band to expose the grapes to sunlight and free flow of air has been an important factor in maximising flavour development. Matua Valley Wines began as a small, family-run winery in West Auckland, New Zealand, in 1973. In the next few years, winemakers Ross and Bill Spence quickly gained a reputation for innovative, award-winning New Zealand wines (12 x 75 cl)

Jim Barry THE COVER DRIVE Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia
Description: Situated in the cool uplands of the North Mount Lofty ranges about 50 km north of Adelaide, the vineyards of Jim Barry were established in Clare in 1959. This is a family run winery committed to producing quality wines through an innovative approach to viticulture and winemaking technology. As a result of this in Jim barry purchased great vine growing land on the southern boundary of Coonawarra. It was formally the old Penola cricket ground, which first saw a ball bowled in anger and the flashing cover drives of the local champions in 1950. Sadly, the ground closed in 1996 and soon afterwards Jim Barry purchased the 30 acre property and planted a Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. However, the original pavilion and pitch have been retained, thus preserving an important piece of Coonawarra sporting history. Fruit from this vineyard, along with selected parcels of fruit from Jim Barry's other family owned Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Clare Valley have been blended to produce a wine that is rich, soft and approachable. Fruit from the Clare Valley and Coonawarra have been used to produce a dark red coloured wine with ripe blackberry, mint and sweet oak aromas. The palate is rich and full bodied with ripe, sweet blackberry and mint flavours, while it shows firm, but finely grained tannins complemented by a lingering finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Description: In 1978 John and Harry Mariani, successful American importers, joined forces with Italy's leading enologist, Ezio Rivella; their objective was to produce top-quality wine on a scale never before attempted in Italy. Castello Banfi is a rarity among Italian wine estates, not just because of its size , its composition of single vineyards, or its state-of-the-art winery, but because it was started from scratch a little over 25 years ago. At that time the Mariani Brothers were looking for an estate where the climate and soil had to be ideal for the cultivation of many of the world's noble grape varieties, and it had to be within a region of Italy that already had a tradition of quality winemaking. The 4,500 acres that the Mariani Brothers first found were near Montalcino, and eligible for the status DOCG of Brunello di Montalcino, one of the most prestigious of all Italian wines and it met the other criteria as well. By good luck the adjacent estate, of 2,600 acres, became available shortly afterwards and in 1984 the 11th century castle was the final purchase, and the estate was renamed Castello Banfi. Today Castello Banfi is producing a wide range of wines including Brunello di Montalcino that was Italy's first wine to be accorded D.O.C.G. status, a testament to its aristocracy, balance and fabulous proclivity for ageing. Under the direction of Banfi's master winemakers, the Brunello grapes are transformed into a remarkable world-class wine, perhaps the most respected red of Italy. Aged for a total of up to four years, including a minimum of two years in oak barrels, Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of robust character. It possesses a rich garnet colour, and a depth, complexity and opulence that is softened by an elegant, lingering aftertaste. Chunky red with aromas of berry, mint, cherry and wet earth. Full-bodied and velvety, it boasts lots of fruit and a long, minty finish . Score : 91. Available in half bottles. (12 x 37.5 cl)
