Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast. The fruit for the Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is composed of exceptional, small block Pinot Noir vineyards located in the Sonoma Coast. Estate vineyards are the primary sources for this cepage, which is comprised of selected blocks from our Ross Road Vineyard , our Seascape and Annapolis Vineyards and a handful of growers within the Russian River Valley. Centuries old winemaking traditions from Burgundy are combined with twenty-first century technology to produce this juicy and delicious Pinot Noir. Hand harvesting in the cool of the morning, followed by meticulous hand sorting is a pre-requisite before de-stemming directly into open-top fermentors. Individual Pinot Noir batches are held at 50 degrees Fahrenheit for five to seven days before the grapes begin to ferment. During this cold soak, and throughout fermentation, the grapes are gently punched down by hand, to aid in the extraction of color and flavor while minimizing the extraction of hard or ‘unripe’ tannins from the seeds or stems. The wine is aged on fine sediment in small French oak barrels for 11 months and is racked once before bottling. Great care from the vineyard to the winery has produced a Pinot Noir showing aromas of rose petals, cherries, orange pekoe tea, lavender and smoke that are followed by flavours of ripe, red cherries, roasted plums, cinnamon, chocolate, anise and allspice. The complex aromas and dense, sweet mouthfeel are supported by centered acidity and fine grain tannins.

Description: Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific coast. Seascape Vineyard is a six-acre site on a scenic ridge-top west of Occidental, California in the Sonoma Coast AVA. The vineyard abuts an old redwood grove and faces cascading ridges to Bodega Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The well-known Coastlands Vineyard also borders the property and because there is no ridge between the ocean and the vineyard, Seascape is in an extremely cold spot – so cold that Chardonnay is often picked in November. The vineyard is cropped to about two tons per acre to ensure thorough ripening. Although a challenging spot to farm, the reward at Seascape is Chardonnay grapes brimming with personality and a very distinctive terroir. The Seascape Vineyard Chardonnay typically shows orange blossom and toasted bread aromas, keen acidity with lemon-drop and fresh lime flavours and underlying mineral notes. The multifaceted aromas and dense mouth feel are knit together by centered acidity and a long-complex candied apricot finish. Description: The varietal is characterized by buttery, smoky aromas and powerfully intense flavors. The Pinot Gris Princes Abbés is a lush and concentrated wine with a good natural acidity. Packed with apple and tropical fruit aromas, the wine has vanilla and butter flavors with a creamy texture and a lingering spicy oak finish. The Pinot Gris, previously called Tokay d'Alsace, then Tokay Pinot Gris, is not related to the Hungarian Tokaji, which comes from the Furmint vine.
