The Le Colombare is made solely from Garganega grapes that have been dried on straw mats for about five months following the harvest. Its rich luscious fruit has flavours of almonds and hazelnuts that linger for ages on the palate. This 30-hectare estate is situated in the heart of the Soave Classico zone in the Veneto, north eastern Italy. Founded by Leonildo Pieropan in 1890 and subsequently run by his two sons, Fausto and Gustavo, it was the youthful enthusiasm of his grandson Leonildo, known as Nino, that revolutionised it. Pieropan attaches enormous importance to his vineyards as a source of the high quality fruit that characterises his wines. After taking over the estate, he acquired crus such as Pigno, Palestrello, La Santa and took pains to expand the existing vineyards of Calvarino and La Rocca. The vineyards are planted primarily with Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave. Pieropan believes that excellence derives from assiduous attention to detail 'from the moment you pick up the secateurs, to the time the cork goes into the bottle'. The results of this philosophy are evident in his immaculate winery, carefully tended vineyards and outstanding wines. Available in 1.5 Litre Magnum bottles. (3 x 1.5 Litres)

Pieropan LE COLOMBARE ReciotodiSoave Classico Veneto
Description: Le Colombare from Pieropan is obtained from the shrivelled recie of choice Garganega grapes, the top part of each bunch, with the ripest and best exposed berries. The bunches are laid out on traditional straw mats, in well aired rooms for a few months. In early spring, the semi-dried grapes are pressed, and the resulting juice is fermented and aged in oak barrels for two years. Intense gold, almost amber coloured, delicately reminiscent of exotic fruit and apricots on the nose, its initial impression on the palate is delicately sweet, a prelude to pleasing and unexpected aromatic complexity. Pieropan’s estate covers 30 hectares of vineyard, all of which are situated on the hills of the Soave Classico zone. The Pieropan family has been producing wines in Soave since the 1860s. Indeed, they were the first producer to bottle a wine with the name Soave on the label, in the early 1930s. Nino Pieropan took over from his father in 1970, and was the first to produce a single vineyard wine, Calvarino, in 1971. The Calvarino vineyard has been in the family since 1901. Tamellini Winery VIGNA MAROGNE ReciotodiSoave DOCG
Description: Although the Tamellini winery was only established in 1998 the family has been making wine in the region for over one hundred years. The property embraces some 15 hectares of vineyards and all the grapes used to make the various Soaves, including the Recioto, are aged in stainless steel. Only the finest, often smallest, most intense grapes are destined for this Recioto. The grapes are picked in September and dried until March before pressing and fermentation. The result is an amazing sweet wine whose complexity and grandeur make it reminiscent of great Sauternes. The old gold in the glass introduces sweet dried fruit and cake aromas that are perfectly reflected on the palate, where the lively sweetness is kept in line by a striking vein of acidity that veers between lime, grapefruit and tangerine. Very fine with a silk texture and exquisite balance, this is deeply impressive. Available in 50 cl bottles. (12 x 50 cl) Price: £273.38
Ca' Rugate L'EREMITA Recioto delle Valpolicella DOC
Description: Ca’ Rugate established by the Tessari family in 1986 has a great deal of respect for tradition and a passion for viticulture, inspired by firm convinction that the quality first is created in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Cà Rugate takes the name from the hill of volcanic origin, at the centre of the Soave Classico area, in which its vineyards are positioned. The soft inclinations of those hills were always adapted to create great wines because of their fantastic position, special microclima and special soil composition. The Estate covers 30 ha of Ca’Rugate, 25 ha around monforte d’apone and 5 ha around montecchia di crosara, in the region of Valpolicella. In the vineyard, they use modern pruning techniques, along with careful canopy management and green pruning; while the latest vinification techniques bring out distinctive aromas and refined flavours in the wines. Made from a selection of the best grapes from Ca’ Rugate’s own vineyards in the hills around Montecchia di Crosara this is a blend of 50% Rondinella and 50% Corvin. The grapes are Hand picked during the last two weeks of September, and laid flat in small wooden boxes containing an average of just six kilograms. This allows good air flow during the crucial drying process. The grapes are allowed to dry gently in well-ventilated rooms for around 6-7 months, concentrating their flavours, sweetness and colour. In the spring, the grapes are crushed, fermentation starts with natural yeast and then the must is filled into barriques to finish fermenting. The wine then matures in wood on its lees for 10-12 months before bottling. Only 3.000 bottles are produced each year of this dark intense ruby red coloured wine. On the nose this wine shows black fruit and berry notes, with hints of wild herbs and spice. The plate is sweet, luscious while it is balanced by velvety tannins and enjoyable finish. (6 x 50 cl) Price: £139.22
