Description:
The Bremerton story began in 1985 when Craig and Mignonne Willson purchased the property and established a long term restoration and development plan. The winery was established in 1988 and now has 110 acres planted at Langhorne Creek and is joint owner and manager of another 180 acres from which it selects the best fruit each year for its wines. Best quality practices ensure best quality grapes and the Bremerton vineyards predominantly grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot, with small plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The winemaking team headed by family member and winemaker Rebecca Willson has taken the quality of the wines to new standards. Rebecca seeks the best possible fruit from the Bremerton Estate and other specialised Langhorne Creek vineyards to craft traditional, full bodied, full flavoured, mouth filling Langhorne Creek wines that show a consistency of style whilst encouraging the true varietal grape characteristics to be expressed. The winery has invested heavily in a premium French & Amercian oak program using 220 litre barriques to ensure subtle and complementary oak influences. The winery utilises tradtional open top fermenters, made from stainless steel and a purpose built barrel cellar for maturation. New laboratory and tasting facilities have also been added to the winery. The best parcels of Shiraz had some of their juice drained off when the extraction colour was perfect, the juice was then cooled, settled and racked. A yeast was chosen that would enhance the natural characters of the berry and the ferment was treated just like a delicate white. The wine was then stabilised, filtered and bottled. This is the third vintage of Racy Rose, produced from 100% estate grown fruit. The philosophy behind this rose is to produce a wine that is easy drinking. The colour is bright and vibrant with a nose that shows wonderfully lifted crushed strawberry and watermelon characteristics. As the name suggests the palate is vibrant and racy with sweet cherry while the finish is dryer than most rose's, flavorsome and refreshing. (12 x 75 cl)

Hollick Shiraz Cabernet Coonawarra South Australia
Description: A soft, silky texture and medium weight, makes it ideal for drinking with modern Mediterranean-style foods. The fermented wine is matured for twelve months in one year old American and French oak barrels, which contribute vanillin and spice flavours while still allowing the fine Coonawarra fruit flavours to dominate the palate. The wine's usual composition is 80% Shiraz, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec. Hollick is an independent, family-owned winery, located on one of the original John Riddoch Coonawarra 'blocks' in the cool south east corner of South Australia. Planting of the classic varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling began in 1975 under the guidance of lan Hollick. lan's involvement with viticulture goes back to his childhood in Mildura as the son of a soldier settler fruit blocker. After studying Agricultural Science, lan worked for Mildara Wines in Coonawarra, progressing to become manager of Mildara vineyards nationally and the Coonawarra winery. With a vision of a great future for Coonawarra, lan purchased 22 hectares of prime Terra Rossa land in 1974. The Hollick Winery was established in 1984 and a year later Hollick won the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy for the best one-year old red wine. The property expanded to more than 100 hectares following the purchase of the Wilgha property in 1987. Hollick has recently expanded north of Coonawarra at Wrattonbully, a region we will hear a lot more about in the future. Shiraz will be the main production for Hollick in this region. New to the range is Neilson's Merlot named after the Australian lyric poet, John Shaw Neilson who owned the historic building which now homes the Cellar Door sales. The 1998 Cabernet Merlot was selected for British Airways First Class and the 1998 Wilgha Shiraz won a gold in the 2001 International Wine Challenge (12 x 75 cl) Price: £123.64

Engelbrecht Els Vineyards ENGELBRECHT ELS Stellenbosch RSA
Description: While men may dream different dreams, they are driven by the same quest: to reach for, and to accomplish perfection. No two pursuits bare the truth of this more than the perfect round of golf and the perfect bottle of wine. So when Ernie and good friend Jean Engelbrecht discussed the possibility to produce a wine together, the marriage of their ideas on winemaking styles and ideas quickly transformed into a strategy based on quality and excellence, no matter what. Jean and Ernie established Engelbrecht Els Vineyards in 1999, and finally opened their dream cellar on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain in Stellenbosch in December 2004. When the friendship and expertise of their respective professions came together, Jean and Ernie set out to create an extraordinary wine. This red wine was created to celebrate the distinct palates of Ernie Els and Jean Engelbrecht as well as to crown their new venture. It was released at the opening of the Ernie Els Winery on December 15, 2004. The Engelbrecht Els vineyards are located high up on the northern slopes of the Helderberg Mountain. This imparts warmer fruit flavours to the wine, because in the summer, the vineyards' close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean result in cool sea breezes that keep temperatures lower, extending the ripening period. The different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Merlot,Malbec and Petit Verdot are kept separate throughout vinification. Half of the wines were vinified in 300 litre French oak barrels for 12 months, where the remainder is unoaked. It will undergo bottle maturation for a further 12 months underground before release. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 55%, Shiraz 21%, Merlot 4%, Petit Verdot 9%, Cabernet Franc 2% and Malbec 9% this Brick red coloured wine has an austere, cedar and pencil shavings bouquet with spicey undertones from the Shiraz component. As the wine opens up wildflower aromas can be found. Black fruit flavours are prevalent on the palate, while a delightful richness likened to Christmas cake is evident. Soft Shiraz flavours can be found on the mid-palate, with hints of farmyard, it also has great intensity experienced on the front and mid-palates. Finally the soft tannins give way to considerable length on the finish for this unique blend of six varietals. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £121.65
