Dean Hewitson NED & HENRY Shiraz BarossaValley South Australia
Description: The colour of 2006 Ned & Henry's is deep red with a purple hue. The aroma is distinctively BarossaValley: black and red, ripe fruits with a solid, concentrated core. Matured in only French oak, the fruit is interwoven with pepper, nutmeg and clove. The seamless class of perfectly ripe fruit and French oak is a stand-out here. The palate structure of Ned & Henry's delivers in every aspect of the brief. The fruit flavours are full and concentrated yet soft and supple. The tannins are gentle yet persistent and completely mould into the wine. Ned & Henry's is most definitely full-bodied: chocolate, blackberry and dark-earth characters. Yet the wine has great balance and poise and carries that signature called 'drinkability' Superbly sited vineyards grown on red soil over limestone, the classic terra rossa, provide the fruit for Ned & Henry's. These vineyards are traditionally grown, low-cropped and produce the necessary flavours and tannins for our wine. After traditional fermentation the wine is pressed into quality French barriques, where the wine finishes fermentation and malo-lactic fermentation. The wine matures in these barrels for a total of about 15 months before racking. While the base wine has always been Shiraz, each year I have blended a small proportion of Mourvèdre with the Shiraz, which accentuates the fruit and delivers a greater complexity. Grant Burge BAROSSA VINES Shiraz BarossaValley Australia
Description: Dark red in colour with a rich ruby hue, this wine exudes complex aromas of raspberries, cherries, stewed fruits and spice with a touch of coffee grounds and tobacco. The palate is rich and luscious showing generous fleshy fruit and spice, with white pepper and well integrated vanillin as well as chocolate oak. The soft tannins and long fruit driven finish are the hallmarks of this enoyable red wine. The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed, then fermented in stainless steel tanks for seven days, with temperatures peaking at 27º C early in the fermentation, then brought down to 22ºC, and pumped over three times a day. Free run and pressings were combined for added colour and structure, the wine was then matured in a combination of American and French oak for 14 months. Wolf Blass GOLD LABEL Chardonnay Adelaide Hills South Australia
Description: The Adelaide Hills Chardonnay is soft gold with a hint of green colour in the glass. Aromas of grapefruit and nectarine develop into a full, rich, yet elegant palate with varietal chardonnay flavours, a complex creamy texture and long finish. VITICULTURE The Adelaide Hills rise from an elevation of 400m and are a full two degrees cooler in summer than the BarossaValley. The region also boasts a variety of soil types and misty wet weather during spring that prevents excessive fruit set. The fruit for this wine was sourced entirely from the Adelaide Hills. The vineyards used best display the qualities of this unique cool climate region; small yields of exquisite fruit, with all the finesse of the world’s best chardonnay. WINEMAKING The fruit from each vineyard was separately fermented with a combination of wild and cultured yeasts in new French oak. A portion of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and lees stirring to add richness, complexity and mouthfeel to the wine. The individual vineyard parcels were then matured in French oak prior to final blending. The wine remained unfiltered until bottling, and was then bottled under screwcap to ensure freshness and preserve the characters of the wine. CELLARING The screwcap closure ensures the freshness and character of the wine is preserved and enables upright cellaring for longer periods. This wine is enjoyable now but will continue to improve with careful cellaring for years to come. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £78.68

Two Hands SOPHIE'S GARDEN Shiraz Padthaway South Australia
Description: The 'two hands' are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz based wines from prized Shiraz producing regions within Australia. Michael Twelftree, initially from a construction background, spent a number of years exporting Australian Wine to the USA and Asia. Richard Mintz a chartered accountant, was formerly C.E.O. of one of Australia's leading Cooperage's in the BarossaValley, South Australia. With Twelftree's contacts and wine savvy approach and Mintz's management skills and business acumen, the two old friends decided to make some wine together. In 2000 they started with just 17 tonnes of fruit from the McLaren Vale and Padthaway wine regions. From the beginning the wines were very well received at home and abroad with a healthy stream of reviews culminating in 2004 with Robert M. Parker pronouncing Two Hands as 'the finest negociant operation south of the equator'. Sourced from a vineyard located in the south west of Padthaway. What's interesting about this vineyard is that there are two distinctly different soil types, on one hand you have deep black sand on the other red clay over limestone . Each producing a different style of Shiraz which blend harmoniously together after being matured for 16 months in predominantly French oak, 20% of which was new. This is an excellent example of what this region is about and confirms our faith in Padthaway as a premium Australian Shiraz producing region. Almost black at the core with a purple rim. A little shy to begin but once opened up shows Asian spice and scented dark black fruits. A powerful full bodied palate with fine grained mouth coating tannins; concentrated upfront fruit that continues right across the palate. Although a big wine it shows focus; the fruit concentration carries the alcohol to offer a finely balanced wine of power and intensity. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £303.37
