Tasting Note A lively mixture of black currants, cherries and spice on the nose. Juicy, ripe tannins and fresh acidity frame the fruit on the palate with the oak adding some richer, seductive chocolate notes in the finish. 13.5% Spy Valley Pinot Noir is unquestionably one of the best pound for pound wines in New Zealand. Whilst many wineries have jumped on the Pinot Noir bandwagon by pricing their wines in line with Premier Cru Burgundies, Spy Valley have just concentrated on making amazing wine at a realistic price. A bit about Spy Valley Named after the satellite listening post located over the road from the winery, Spy Valley is in the Waihopai Valley in Marlborough. Happily for us they appear more interested in fine wine than exploding cigars, and recent vintages have seen the winery’s trophy cabinet filled to bursting. Like most Marlborough wineries, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc are Spy Valley specialties but winemaker Ant Mackenzie and his team also make a great range of aromatic whites including Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris. Their quality was recognised in March 2007 when the winery became the first ever producer to win four trophies in the same year at the Sydney Wine Show. (6 x 75 cl)

Matua Valley MARLBOROUGH PinotNoir Marlborough NZ
Description: A series of highly popular wines for everyday consumption, they have been made to exhibit unique regional characters. An elegant and well-proportioned PinotNoir exhibiting red currant nuances together with violet and mint characters while well integrated oak is evident. The PinotNoir palate is pleasantly robust with rich fruit flavours leading into a lingering soft tannin finish. The Marlborough region is situated at the Northern tip of the South Island of New Zealand. The warm, dry daytime climate combined with the cool sea breezes at night have a dramatic influence on the production of grapes characterised by a great depth of flavour. Matua Valley Wines began as a small, family-run winery in West Auckland, New Zealand, in 1973. In the next few years, winemakers Ross and Bill Spence quickly gained a reputation for innovative, award-winning New Zealand wines (6 x 75 cl) Price: £54.39

De Loach PinotNoir Russian River Valley California
Description: To create the Russian River ValleyPinotNoir, grapes were hand-harvested from DeLoach vineyards. Crafted using traditional Burgundian techniques, including fermentation in small tanks, hand punch-downs and ageing in 60-gallon French oak barrels, this PinotNoir is an elegant example of this varietal. The cool, foggy Russian River Valley climate allows for slow ripening, enabling the grapes to develop full flavour maturation over an extended time. As a result this wine offers classic Russian River Valley aromas of cola with dark fruit and notes of barrel spice. Flavours of black cherry, violet and a note of cinnamon unfold on the palate as the silky smooth, supple finish glides across the palate. The Russian River Valley has come to be known as 'America's Burgundy,' and DeLoach is proud to have been an important factor in this distinction. Purchased by Boisset in 2003 and the appointment of new winemaker Greg La Follette marked the start of their return to form for DeLoach. Greg is a Pinot specialist, as his background would suggest, and these are the wines that are the most distinctive in the De Loach range. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £168.62
