Jean-Claude Boisset St Aubin 1er Cru Sur Gamay Unoaked Chardonnay
Description: With its prestigious Premiers Crus, Saint-Aubin in the Côte de Beaune holds a place among the great wines. No fewer than 65ha of its vineyards are rated as Premier Cru. The vines are mainly planted on the right side of the wide coomb that snakes its way up towards La Rochepot. The appellation area is spread over two different hill ranges: one is the Montagne de Savoie, which delimits the end of the Côte d'Or, and the other is the Montagne du Ban, which is perpendicular to it. It is on the second of these hills that 'Sur Gamay' sits. Patriat feels that wines from this lieu-dit are very close in quality to a Puligny or a Chassagne. Parcel-based selection and vineyard management was used. The vineyard soil was worked in order to encourage the microbacterial activity required for the terroir to express itself. The yield is 40 hl/ha. The grapes were hand picked at optimum maturity and put into small perforated boxes. Patriat has two sorting tables, with 10 people per table, looking out for any grapes that aren't fit to go into the fermenting vat. The wine was barrel fermented using natural yeasts . Patriat eschews battonage as he doesn't like the fatness it lends to wines, preferring instead to allow the inherent elegance and minerality of the wine to shine through unhindered. The malolactic fermentation took place in barrel. The wine was matured for 15 months and underwent a very light filtration before bottling. (6 x 75 cl)

Louis Latour Nuits St Georges AC
Description: The most southerly of the villages of the Côte de Nuits this region makes up the other half of the Côte d'Or. There is even an equivalent to the Hospices de Beaune Auction called the Hospices de Nuits Auction although it rarely inspires as much interest as its neighbour to the south. The wine is firm and usually requires some time before allowing its Pinot character to shine through. The 1999 vintage is an intense, deeply coloured wine, showing pronounced, complex fruit of cherries, blackcurrents and violets, with truffles and spice. Subtle and integrated oak flavours on the palate with peppery notes, this wine is medium bodied, concentrated and admirably long on the finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Jean-Claude Boisset Saint Veran AC
Description: Saint-Véran AC covers nearly 600 hectares of vineyards, spread across six villages, which are divided into two main areas. The fruit for this wine was sourced from the more southerly sites near Chasselas and Saint- Véran, which tend to have a higher clay content than those in the north. The wines from these areas produce aromatic, minerally wines. The grapes are hand picked and put into small perforated boxes. Patriat has two sorting tables, with 10 people per table, looking for any grape that isn't fit to go into the fermenting vat. The wine is barrel fermented using natural yeasts . The malolactic fermentation took place in barrel. Patriat eschews battonage as he doesn't like the fatness it lends to wines, preferring instead to allow the inherent elegance of his wines to shine through unhindered. The wine was matured in barrel for 8 months before bottling, and underwent a very light filtration before bottling. (6 x 75 cl)

Jean-Claude Boisset LES CHARBONNIERES Nuits Saint Georges
Description: This wine is produced from selected old Pinot Noir vines with highly precise characteristics. During the growing season, restricted yields are produced through drastic debudding and cluster thinning if necessary; while the soil has little or no fertiliser, and vine protection techniques are adopted that are friendly to the environment and other plant life. This has produced a dark, sparkling ruby coloured wine with a very expressive nose showing blackcurrant and dark berries. In the mouth it is solid and intense, with structure against a very clean, fruity background. (6 x 75 cl)

Jean-Claude Boisset Grand Cru CLOS DE LA ROCHE Morey-St-Denis
Description: This wine is aged in the cask for sixteen to eighteen months, using a fairly low proportion of new casks finally being bottled with a very light filtration. 100% Pinot Noir it is displaying a fine dark colour with ruby reflections. The aromas of spices and cherries develop on the palate of this a silky structured red wine finishing with a mellow woodiness. Morey-Saint-Denis, nestling in its enclave between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, produces no fewer than five Grands Crus. Forming the northern boundary of the commune, 'Clos de la Roche' takes its name from a rock used by the Celts for their rites. Adjoining 'Latricieres-Chambertin', Clos de la Roche produces Morey's most robust wines. The soil here is so pebbly and hard to work that it used to exhaust even the toughest growers. These hard brown pieces of limestone make for a very firm wine, but one with the best possible ageing potential. Today, 'Clos de la Roche' covers some 16 hectares. (6 x 75 cl)

Jean-Claude Boisset Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St Jacques
Description: A large village at the start of the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey Chambertin has one of the largest vineyard areas: no fewer than 330 hectares in production, 82 of which are Premier Cru. Elevation varies between 240 and 280 metres. The soil is limestone, with a good proportion of clay marl originating in scree from the Combe de Lavaux, lending a well-rounded power. 'Lavaux Saint Jacques' is one of the most famed Premiers Crus, often equalling the quality of some of the Grands Crus. The direct southern exposure is without doubt one of the key factors in its tender fleshiness and very prominent silkiness. (6 x 75 cl)

Domaine Henri Gouges LES ST GEORGES 1er Cru Nuits-Saint-Georges
Description: The Henri Gouges domain was established in Nuits Saint Georges at the very beginning of this century. Founded by Henri Gouges, it was subsequently developed by his two sons, Michel and Marcel. In the last 15 years Pierre and Christian, the grandsons, have carried on the traditions of the estate by continuing the quest for excellence in everything they do both in the vineyards and in the cellars, they produce wines considered to be the benchmark for Nuits. The wines are produced on 14.5 hectares of vineyards and includes holdings in 6 Nuits St. Georges 1er Crus. Uncompromising about quality and respectful of the typicity of the different vintages, the harvest is entirely destemmed and vinification takes place in lined cement vats for approximately fifteen days, depending on the vintage. After cuvaison, the wine is transferred to small oak barrels and after 18 months ageing in oak barrels, using a maximum of 20 % new oak in the final blending, the wines are fined with egg whites and given a light filtration before bottling. This is a balanced, powerful, long-lived wine showing complexity, even distinction. The qualifications of fine wines magnificently illustrate the beauty of wines from this parcel, a very good clay-calcareous example of the slopes surrounding Nuits. This first cru unquestionably possesses the calibre of a fine wine. Limited Availability. (6 x 75 cl)
