Sherwood Estate SHERWOOD Pinot Noir NZ
Description: Sherwood Estate is very much a family business, with Dayne and Jill Sherwood owning and operating it since the late 1980's. The winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, while they have four vineyards also owned by Sherwood Estate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island. Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, Sherwood Estate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Sherwood Estate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the Sherwood Estate Range and the the Stratum Range. The Sherwood range proudly carries the name of the winery and reflects Sherwood Estate's commitment to the highest quality. The wines are varietally focussed and come from selected parcels in the Sherwood Estate Vinyards in Marlborough and Waipara. All the fruit was hand harvested and upon arrival at the winery, the fruit was destemmed, lightly crushed and gently tipped into open top fermenters. Yeast was added to initiate the ferment after a five day 'soak' period. Three times per day the cap was hand plunged and spent an average of 16 days 'on skins'. Next, Malolactic fermentation and oak maturation was undertaken for two months prior to blending and bottling. This deep red coloured Pinot Noir displays ripe, sweet plum notes with an edge of complexity on the nose. The nose follows onto the palate complemented by the rich and rounded style supported by fine grain tannins and smooth finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Bay of Fires ARRAS Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir Tasmania
Description: Bay of Fires was born of a desire by BRL Hardy to make cool climate wines of classical structure, combining fruit intensity with refinement, complexity and persistence of flavour. Tasmania's latitude and island status was identified and with its unique climates more closely resembling the classic winegrowing regions of France this has been achieved. Arras is the flagship wine produced by Bay of Fires Winery. 100% Tasmanian, the wine aims to capture a sense of place; the true essence of Tasmania. As with the Bay of Fires range, fruit for Arras is sourced across Tasmania, taking advantage of diverse viticultural conditions and enabling the selection of only the most premium parcels from each region. The extreme cool climate of the Bay of Fires property allows maximum flavour retention through the long slow ripening season. The grapes are hand picked and pressed in close proximity to the vineyards to ensure optimum quality is maintained. Traditional sparkling wine techniques were utilised throughout to enhance the fruits natural qualities. One hundred percent of the base wine underwent malolactic fermentation and the wine was aged on yeast lees. Patience and careful handling have been rewarded with a sparkling wine of the finest calibre. Like the luxurious tapestries from which it takes its name, Arras, Australia's prestige sparkling wine, is skillfully woven together from a blend of Chardonnay 61.5% and Pinot Noir 38.5%. This sparkling wine is a medium straw colour with a gentle green/gold hue. Pristine clarity and a fine, persistent bead further enhances the aesthetics of this wine. Lifted mushroom/truffle and lanolin bouquet typical of aged cold climate Chardonnay, it is complimented by white stone-fruit aromas of Pinot Noir underpinned by yeast complexity. Elegance and persistence of flavour are the key factors to the fine, soft and complex palate. Arras finishes dry with a crisp natural acid finish. Limited Availability. (6 x 75 cl)

Jackson Wine Estates LA CREMA Pinot Noir Anderson Valley California
Description: Part of Jackson Wine Estates, La Crema winery was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This wine is from the Anderson Valley known for sloping hillside benches thta are blanketed by cool fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean during the heat of the summer growing season. These moderating conditions are ideal in cultivating Pinot Noir with naturally bright acidity and delicate red cherry and cranberry fruit aromas. The Anderson Valley is Mendocino’s premier growing region for Pinot Noir and this wine used the Dijon, heirloom Martini and Pommard clones to enhance the aroma and complexity. In the vineyard fruit-thinning is undertaken to remove late flowering clusters ensuring even ripening throughout the vineyards. Next the fruit is handpicked from the cool climate vineyards and delivered to the winery in small half ton bins to protect the integrity of the fruit. Once in the winery the Pinot Noir grapes are put on to a belt delivery system with sorting table to purge damaged fruit. Here only 70% of the whole berries are selected before fermentation takes place for greater fruit expression. Next a five day, 48 degree cold soak is completed before fermentation so that it enhances the silky tannin texture. Open top fermentation with cap punch downs four times daily extracts precise colour before the wine is aged 10 months in 100% French oak barrels refines the finish. Finally the Pinot Noir is bottled unfiltered and unfined to express the pure character of this great varietal. Winemaker Melissa Stackhouse had the following comments to make about this wine: 'Exotic aromas are delicate and floral with a hint of blueberry and herbal black tea. The flavours are focused on lush dark red cherry fruit which provides an enticing plush texture. Bright acidity accented by cranberry and red cherries create a seductive fruit entry that leads to a broad lingering finish.' (6 x 75 cl)

Jackson Wine Estates LA CREMA Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast California
Description: La Crema was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the cool Sonoma Coast. Continuing this tradition, La Crema pursues the ultimate expression of the Russian River Valley, Carneros and Anderson Valley by handcrafting wines of distinctive flavour which achieve elegance and balance The Sonoma Coast is located on the western coastal fringe of Sonoma County, starting with a narrow strip at the Mendocino County border and continuing through the mouth of the Russian River; then down to the Sonoma Carneros border of Napa. This AVA is the largest in Sonoma County yet is the least planted. Known for its dramatic flux in temperature, the warm days and cool nights allow gradual ripening of grapes with fully developed flavours, high natural acidity and low pH. The region’s cold conditions push the limits of grape growing making it particularly well suited for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Once in the winery this 100% Pinot Noir is aged 8 months mainly in French Oak, of which 28% are new barrels. As a result Melissa Stackhouse, La Crema Winemaker considered: 'Aromas of black cherry, licorice and anise. Cherry and plum flavours with hints of leather and tar, balanced acidity and sturdy tannins round out the mouth.' Available in 37.5 cl Half Bottles. (12 x 37.5 cl)

Domaine Fichet Bourgogne Pinot Noir AC
Description: Domaine Fichet is located in Burgundy in the small village of Ige, and more precisely in the hamlet of Martoret. From a long line of wine-growers, only Francis Fichet took the risk of creating his own domaine withdrawing from the co-operative winery of the village during 1976. He prospered and the domaine now totals about 11 ha of vines, of which 3/4 are Gamay and Pinot Noir, the rest is Chardonnay. The various varietals can be found on the two slopes that surround the domaine. The south-east facing slope , with its clay and limestone soil, is planted mainly to red varietals, Gamay and Pinot Noir as well as a portion of the whites . The south-west facing slope , is planted with Chardonnay vines which require more sun. The soil is rich in limestone and chalk which encourages the expression of the vine and favours terroir wines. Francis Fichet was one of the first winegrowers to plant Pinot Noir in Maconnais and is a great reflection of the terrior. This wine has a beautiful cherry red colour, and classic Pinot fruity characteristics. It is round and easy to drink with soft, integrated tannins on the finish. Available in 37.5 cl Half Bottles.
