Duck Pond CellarsMerlot Columbia Valley Washington State
Description: Founded in 1993, Duck Pond Cellars owns and operates 820 acres of vineyards in the valleys of northern Oregon and slopes of eastern Washington. Growing in these diverse climates allows Duck Pond Cellars to produce the best quality fruit for a wide selection of wines. This wine is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a litlle Cabernet Franc. The grapes are selected from the 480-acre southern facing Desert Wind Vineyard that is located in Eastern Washington on the Wahluke Slope. This site is considered a zone 3, the hottest in the Columbia Valley, however, cool evenings allow for acid development. Great care from the vineyard to the winery is taken in assembling this wine that leads to 12 months barrel ageing in both French and American oak barrels that add a notable structure. The wine is rich with dark fruits such as plum and blackberry integrating beautifully with the oak. Hints of leather and velvety texture with a bit of chocolate linger on the smooth finish. Beringer STONECELLARS Sauvignon Blanc California
Description: When making the StoneCellars Sauvignon Blanc, Winemaker Mary Sullivan focused on retaining the bright crisp fruit flavors of Sauvignon Blanc and highlighting the wine with subtle undertones of toasty vanilla and rich creamy peaches. In the final blend, Mary chose to complement the green apple and crisp citrus of the Sauvignon Blanc with approximately nine-percent Semillon for depth, complexity, and fullness with slight amounts of Gewürztraminer for a floral and spice notes and Chenin Blanc for a peachy softness. To round out the flavors with toasty, spice nuances, she barrel fermented a portion of the wine in French and American oak barrels for approximately two months. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £81.78

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars HAWK CREST Merlot California
Description: Hawk Crest is the companion brand or 'house wine' of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. Representing fine quality Hawk Crest wines have been handcrafted by the Winiarski family in the Napa Valley since 1974. Hawk Crest winemaker Mark Smith balances richly flavoured fruit from the central part of Paso Robles in San Luis Obispo County with grapes from the Red Hills district of Lake County, which lies just north of the Napa Valley and is increasingly recognized as a wine area in its own right. The Lake County fruit contributes grip and structure to the blend, balancing the rich Paso Robles fruit and creating a wine that is accessible and full of character. The wine was aged for 9 months in French oak barrels, which provided complexity and hints of vanilla to support the wine’s wealth of fruit flavours. Hawk Crest consistently delivers distinctive, balanced and approachable wines that are ready to enjoy upon release and will continue to improve with age. This Merlot displays great dimension in the nose with aromas of blueberry, ripe plum and black cherry accented by hints of violet, anise, pepper and dark chocolate. On the palate, upfront flavours of black cherry, plum and dark berries mix with medium soft tannins, sweet vanilla and well-integrated oak. A rich, silky texture and long, lingering finish are the final rewards. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £154.46
