Lisa McGuigan TempusTwoPEWTER LABEL Shiraz Barossa Valley
Description: Colour Dense violet purple Nose Powerful ribena fruit coupled with oak derived lifted buttery char. Palate A full bodied wine with fine integrated tannins and warm alcohol finish. Strong Shiraz fruit flavours of pepper/spice, cassis and earthy overtones are present and are complimented by a subtle underlay of new American oak. General The 1999 vintage was cool and dry with very little rain resulting in good quality clean fruit. The Vine Vale Vineyard consists entirely of old vines dry grown on a friable sandy loam which results in low cropping levels with the fruit being intensely flavoured. The fruit was allowed to hang on the vine until it began to show a slight dehydration at which point it was harvested and was transported to a crushing facility where it was crushed and chilled to 5 degrees and loaded onto a tanker and transported to the Hunter Valley. The must was onloaded into rotofermenters and allowed to warm up for two days before being inoculated with a selected yeast strain. Fermentation was conducted at 25 degrees C for approximately 4 days and then the grapes were pressed off through a Willmes airbag press to produce this intensely coloured wine with powerful fruit and soft tannins. This is a style that is capable of being cellared for decades or being consumed young when the fruit is dominating. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £78.41

Lisa McGuigan TempusTwoPEWTER LABEL Merlot Hunter Valley
Description: Dense Purple Nose Typical Merlot varietal character showing perfumed cherry and tomato bush. Some toffee cinnamon charred oak give additional complexity. Palate A soft full bodied wine with fine grained tannins, fleshy fruit and good persistence. General The vintage in the Hunter Valley is characterised by cool conditions and persistent rain through out the growing season. In early January extremely hot weather stalled the ripening of fruit and it was necessary to slightly dehydrate the fruit on the vine to attain optimum balance. The grapes were machines harvested at night with the fruit being chilled down to 8 degrees into a conventional stainless steel fermentation vessel. The crushed grapes were cold soaked for approximately 5 days when the onset of wild fermentation occurred, at which point a low level of yeast was also added. On completion of fermentation the grapes were pressed via a large Diemme airbag press into another vessel where the wine was allowed to complete both primary and secondary fermentation. The wine was clarified with some going to barrel for maturation and a portion being held in stainless steel. Prior to bottling the wine received a mild fining with egg whites (6 x 75 cl) Price: £78.41

Craggy Range SOPHIA Hawke's Bay NZ
Description: BRIEF TASTING NOTE Dense brooding concentrated red wine in a modern Bordeaux style. Great cellaring potential. WINE NOTES Intense brooding, deep black cherry colours, almost opaque. Concentrated, complex aromas of black plums, cassis, liquorice, root spices, tobacco, coffee and violets that in their youth are tightly held. The palate is densely structured, with concentrated flavours that reflect the nose adding a further hint of sweet blueberry pie and bitter chocolate notes with fantastic fine fruit and oak tannins to finish. The palate is tightly wrapped in its youth opening strongly in the glass, indicating a cellar life of ten years +. Sophia...means wisdom: an honourable description of a wine created with the knowledge of the Old World, and the passion and innovation of the New. Sophia is made from low-cropping Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines grown in our Gimblett Gravels Vineyard. Hand harvested, and fermented in small fermentation vessels for almost a month, this wine spends a year in new French oak barriques. The best barrels are then aged for a further six months in seasoned French oak. Sophia is a rich, seductive wine that entices the palate. Its subtle power is revealed with time, up to 10 years from vintage, in a wine of density, complexity and real beauty. A natural deposit may form over time as this wine is bottled unfiltered. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £321.41

Sherwood Estate STONEY RANGE Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough NZ
Description: Sherwood Estate is very much a family business, with Dayne and Jill Sherwood owning and operating it since the late 1980's. The winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, while they have four vineyards also owned by Sherwood Estate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island. Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, Sherwood Estate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Sherwood Estate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the Sherwood Estate Range and the the Stratum Range. The Stratum range is crafted by our winemaker to reflect intense varietal fruit flavours from classic varieties producing finished wines of consistently excellent quality and wide appeal. The grapes for this wine are grown in Marlborough at the Rowley Crescent vineyard and selected sites in the Awatere Valley. The fruit was harvested at night and transported to the winery. Following pressing, the juice was settled and cool fermented for 17 days. After a three month period of lees contact the different lots were blended, lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling. The Sauvignon Blanc displays abundant aromas of gooseberries and capsicum on the nose. The palate is fresh and lively showing rich concentration and a long lingering finish. Craggy Range AVERY VINEYARD Sauvignon Blanc Hawke's Bay NZ
Description: BRIEF TASTING NOTE Classic gooseberry and stone fruits with a juicy dry finish. WINE NOTES In its youth the wine is pale straw in colour with bright lime green hints. Aromas are reserved and very tightly focused in its youth in the bright gooseberry/ sweet herb/white peach spectrum and in 2003 for the first time some red capsicum. I expect these to evolve and become more punchy over the next year in a classic ripe Marlborough style. The palate shows very similar characters and flavours which in their youth are vivid and alive. The wine is tightly structured, with a distinctive bony feel that gives the palate length and persistence. Our most powerful expression of this classy wine, that will evolve over two to three years in the bottle. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £183.19
