A blend of 85% Sangiovese as well as a little Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the fruit comes from the Santedame Estate located near the village of Castellina in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. Ruby red in colour the Sangiovese grapes at the Santedame Estate always distinguish themselves by a fantastic, fragrant, fruity character. This adds an almost aromatic character to the bouquet which includes small red and black berry fruits, violets, ripe plums, white pepper grains, toasted coffee and plain chocolate notes intertwine, leading to an elegant, refined finish. The Santedame Chianti Classico 2005 is medium-bodied and smooth with elegant, soft fruity notes, while the tannins are velvety and well integrated in the fruity core. The after taste is long lingering and characterised by notes of strawberry pie and cherry jam. The label of the Santedame Chianti Classico shows a beautiful fresco of Virgin Mary, accompanied by Saint John and Saint Peter. This fresco, which has a sweet, loving air to it, can be seen in the small chapel hidden in the forest of the Santedame Estate. The fresco dates back to the fourteenth century and is attributed to the school of the famous Florentine artist Il Ghirlandaio. It is one of the many examples of how history, culture and wine meet on the Santedame Estate. (6 x 75 cl)

Ruffino TENUTASANTEDAMEChiantiClassico DOCG
Description: This elegant ChiantiClassico comes from a single property in Castellina. The nose has fresh, red fruit and violet aromas and clean, lightly oaked, fruity flavours with good body. World famous as a Chianti producer, during the last 25 years Ruffino have diversified their production to become one of Tuscany’s most important ambassadors for quality wine. The Folonari family’s strategy of acquiring and developing “tenimenti” – individual estates in specialised zones – has given their portfolio great variety and personality. Ruffino now owns a total of 1,500 hectares of land including 400 under wine. This diversity reflects the best of both modern and traditional winemaking. The Ruffino flagship has always been the magnificent Riserva Ducale ChiantiClassico, which was originally the private reserve of the Duke of Aosta. Ruffino’s new style of wines is well represented by Libaio, a delicious, fresh, lightly perfumed blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio (6 x 75 cl) Price: £95.65
