The wines are crafted from ripe, flavourful grapes from vineyards in the Columbia Valley in eastern Washington state. Description: Founded in 1993, Duck Pond Cellars owns and operates 820 acres of vineyards in the valleys of northern Oregon and slopes of eastern Washington. Growing in these diverse climates allows Duck Pond Cellars to produce the best quality fruit for a wide selection of wines. This wine is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a litlle Cabernet Franc. The grapes are selected from the 480-acre southern facing Desert Wind Vineyard that is located in Eastern Washington on the Wahluke Slope. This site is considered a zone 3, the hottest in the Columbia Valley, however, cool evenings allow for acid development. Great care from the vineyard to the winery is taken in assembling this wine that leads to 12 months barrel ageing in both French and American oak barrels that add a notable structure. The wine is rich with dark fruits such as plum and blackberry integrating beautifully with the oak. Hints of leather and velvety texture with a bit of chocolate linger on the smooth finish.
