Los Robles Carmenere Curico Valley Chile
Description: In 1939, when an earthquake devestated the Curico Valley in Central Chile the Los Robles Co-operative was formed to help rebuild the local community. Today, the Co-operative ensures local small-scale farmers receive a fair price for their grapes and through the fairtrade scheme earn a sustainable livelihood through export trade. Los Robles was recently nominated as the 'Best Chilean Winery' and this Single Varietal wine shows why. 100% Carmenere and harvested by hand, once in the winery this wine stays four to six months in American oak barrels before release. This has produced an intense plummy red colour with an elegant, fine, fruity aroma of berries and plums, with notes of chocolate, caramel and pepper. A well balanced wine with a heavy fruity presence of mature red fruits with wood overtones, as well as a toasty, spicy flavour that gives way to a long soft finish of this enjoyable Fairtrade wine. Edouardo Chadwick ARBOLEDA Carmenere Aconcagua Valley Chile
Description: Carmenere has expressed great affinity to the Chilean terroir. It adapted so well to the soils and sunny climate that was often called the ''Chilean Merlot''. Our Arboleda Carmenere captures this grape variety's finest attributes with its intense colour and deep, spicy fruit character. Its aroma is highly complex, with unique notes of sweet spices, fig jam and tobacco intermingling with vibrant layers of rich, ripe berries. On the palate the wine has a full, round mouth feel, with rich and complex flavours and round, soft tannins, culminating in a long, lingering finish. The Arboleda range is made to complement food. This wine is perfect with grilled meat. The hand-harvested Carmenere grapes are quickly transported to the winery and carefully emptied into belt conveyors to avoid damaging the grapes. After destemming and lightly crushing the fruit, we gave the must a cold maceration of two to three days for gentle extraction of colour and flavour. We then began fermentation at 28ºC with selected yeasts, pumping the wine over the cap of skins twice a day to extract flavours. To develop varietal complexity and naturally soften tannins, we gave the wine 40 days of extended maceration. This wine aged in French and American oak barrels for eleven months to weave spicy oak nuances through the rich fruit flavours. (6 x 75 cl)

Botalcura LA PORFIA Grand Reserva Carmenere Curico Chile
Description: Vina Botalcura is the result of the passion of two men. Chilean partner, Juan Fernando Waidele, was seduced by the charm of the town of Botalcura and its environs, and this is where the idea to build a winery started. Juan Fernando then met enologist Philippe Debrus, who had a strong desire to return to a hands-on approach to winemaking, a style he learned in his native France when he was young. The winery is named after the town it is based in, Botalcura, near Talca, about 3 hours south of Santiago, in the coastal mountain range that forms the Maule Valley. Additionally, the word Botalcura means Large Stone in Mapundungun, the language of the Mapuche people of southern Chile. A part of the Vina Botalcura land was christened many years ago with the name La Porfia. This expression alludes to those who have tenacity and perseverance, qualities that fit perfectly with the spirit in which our Grand Reserve wines are made. This Carmenere is aged for 14 months in French and American oak, and are then bottle aged for a further year before they are released from the winery. The care taken from the vineyards, influenced by the Andes Mountains climate, through to the winery has produced a dark ruby red coloured wine with dark violet reflects. The aromatic complexity shows the variety at its best, with notes of cherry, honey and vanilla as well as smoky undertones, tobacco and dry oak accents. The wide attack as well as a soft and full medium palate show this Red has good and discreet acid support, with many soft tannins. The great balance of the wine makes it strong and elegant at the same time while the finish is extra long and smooth. (12 x 75 cl)

Veramonte PRIMUS Casablanca Valley Chile
Description: A native Chilean, Agustin Huneeus joined Napa Valley based Franciscan Estates in 1985 as President and CEO, bringing with him international wine experience from Chile and the United States. In 1990, after discovering promising potential vineyard property in the Casablanca Valley, Agustin Huneeus realized his dream of returning to Chile to found Veramonte. Veramonte's Casablanca Valley is surrounded by coastal mountain ranges creating a diversity of unique microclimates and terroirs. Its close proximity to the Pacific Ocean provides ideal growing and ripening conditions for Chardonnay. The valley floor provides a cool Carneros-like climate, while the terraced hillside blocks have warmer temperatures, similar to the northern Napa Valley. This 'super-premium' wine uses Carmenere as the base together with some Cabernet Sauvignon. Using premium quality fruit from the Alto de Casablanca estate, the young wine is aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. Definitely a 'terroir' wine, Primus is a limited production wine that showcases the rare Carmenère variety, a grape once prevalent in Bordeaux in the 1800's when Chile first began importing vines from France. The finished wine has superb concentration with mouthfilling flavours of blackberry and cherries mingling with the spicy oak. (6 x 75 cl)

Distinctive aromas of black cherry and cassis are complemented by notes of red bell pepper, sun-dried fruits, toast, coffee, and vanilla. While the deceptively open palate is direct on entry, it opens to reveal a rounded middle, supported by excellent acidity. Soft tannins from the middle palate through the firm, ever-so-slightly bitter finish adds length to the structural elements of this full-bodied Cabernet Franc. Finally, ageing in small oak barrels have contributed toasty complexity to the gamut of rich fruit flavours. (12 x 75 cl)
