This Chianti has an intense colour and lovely perfumes of cherries and fresh red fruit mingle with spicy, peppery notes. The wine has depth with good acidity. Early bottling ensures that the fruit is retained rather than dissipated. Cantine Leonardo was founded in 1961, and its first vintage was 1965. At the outset the co-operative fermented grapes and sold wine in bulk, and it was in 1971 that Cantine Leonardo began selling bottled wines. The co-operative has approximately 150 member growers. These wines are from the small, hilly area in the commune of Vinci, Cerreto Guidi and a limited number of surrounding communes. The quality of the Cantina Leonardo wines is attributable to the ethos of quality that has spread through Leonardo since the arrival of Alberto Antonini as consultant winemaker at the end of 1996.
