Description: Lovely purity and liveliness of fruit. It shows typical black cherry perfume on the nose, with lively yet supple fruit on the palate supported by fine grained tannins. The 40-hectare Delta Vineyard site in Marlborough was bought in 2001 by four partners, amongst whom are winemaker Matt Thomson and UK based wine importer David Gleave MW. It was planted solely with Pinot Noir in 2002 and 2003 and produced its first vintage in 2004. The combination of low vigour clay soils and the best of the new Dijon clones gives us superb fruit, some of the best Pinot I've ever worked with in Marlborough, says Thomson. (6 x 75 cl)

Description: In 1995, two seasoned wine veterans shared a vision for a distinctive Napa Valley winery that would produce wines in the artisan fashion of the Old World Masters. George Vare and Mike Moone were major influencers in the industry when they decided to launch Luna Vineyards. Together, they selected a prime piece of property at the southernmost end of the Silverado Trail and set about to transform it into a landmark winery. President Mary Ann Tsai heads a dedicated team in crafting Napa Valley wines of intricate character and exquisite taste, using techniques such as co-fermentation and natural yeasts to achieve distinctive results. Luna has achieved critical acclaim and is quickly becoming known for producing wines whose timeless attributes evoke a lifestyle of refined taste and sophistication. Reminiscent of the finest Pinot Grigios of France and Italy, the 2004 Luna Pinot Grigio is a delicate wine with beautiful natural acidity. The winemaking team worked closely with small vineyards in Napa ensuring our high standards are met from vineyards inCarneros, Napa, and other cool areas in Northern California. After 7 months in barrel the wine is showing a delicate balance of fig, peach, rose petals and ripe melon on the nose. The mouth has heady minerality with obvious toasted bread with layers of spices of cinnamon and nutmeg. The use of the French Oak is apparent in its ability to hold the wine up without overpowering the delicateness of the wine. The finish folds seamlessly into persistent fig and wet stone. (12 x 75 cl)

Description: Since the launch in 2000, Sula Vineyards have quickly gained the reputation of being India’s leading producer of premium New World-style wines. A great pink coloured Rose that is light and fruity abounding with aromas of honeysuckle and fresh strawberries. Situated 180 km northeast of Mumbai, Nashik is India’s largest grape-growing region, but had traditionally never been used to grow wine grapes. Wondering why, an enterprising, Stanford-trained engineer named Rajeev Samant quit his hi-tech Silicon Valley job in 1993 to do some investigating. A little research quickly showed that the Nashik climate was not only perfect for wine grapes, but was also on par with winegrowing regions in Spain, California, and Australia. His determination doubled, Rajeev returned to California in search of a winemaker. In Sonoma County he found Kerry Damskey, an eminent Californian winemaker, who enthusiastically agreed to help start a winery on Rajeev’s 30 acre family estate and so the story began.

Odfjell Vineyards BABOR Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Valley Chile
Description: Over 20 years ago, the pioneering Norwegian Armador, Dan Odfjell discovered and fell in love with a small corner of the famous Maipo Valley, Chile. Born of rain in Bergen, Norway, he could not resist the attraction of the austral sun in this Virgilian setting. Serendipity would later show that he had found land in Chile's premium red wine producing valley, where vitis vinifera has been cultivated since the 17th century. Here a soothing coastal breeze produces a microclimate conducive to distinct and beautiful wines on the 85 hectares planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenere, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. This hand harvested Cabernet Sauvignon with a little Merlot and Cabernet Franc is a red/ ruby colour with violet reflections. The aromas with notes of red wild berries such as blackberry and raspberry, as well as plums combine well with Odfjell signature licorice. On the palate, the wine has a round attack, showing fruit and a refreshing, well-balanced, acidity, with a long and juicy finish. Produced from 10 year old vines in the Maipo Valley, the vineyard is surrounded by mountains. Here the wide variation in temperature, with high temperatures during the day, and cool nights develops the grapes full potential. (6 x 75 cl)

Description: Dry Creek Vineyard was the first new winery to be established in the Dry Creek Valley since the days of Prohibition, when David Stare arrived in 1972. Today, Dry Creek Vineyard wines are easy to recognise due to the spirited yacht paintings that appear on the label of each bottle. David Stare's pioneering vision launched a new era of premium wine production in the Dry Creek Valley. Inspired by his travels throughout the traditional wine regions of France and Germany, Dave's focus was ever on quality. To persue this focus, small batch winemaking has been adopted because individual-lot winemaking promotes increased knowledge about how to manage each vineyard while offering maximum blending options and enhanced quality control. Dry Creek Vineyard insists on crafting each lot of wine separately with each vineyard lot crushed, fermented, and barrel aged separately. Approximately 75-100 different wines are produced each vintage, where fining is the exception, not the rule. Zinfandel Heritage Clone is the product of experimentation with budwood from a pre-Prohibition era vineyard. The result is a rustic, traditional style of Zinfandel, with ripe berry aromas and flavours bolstered by earthy, dusty notes. It is well structured with a balanced vanilla oak finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Description: Founded in 1972, Joseph Phelps Vineyards is an independent, estate-based winery located outside of St. Helena. Perched on a knoll in bucolic Spring Valley, the graceful redwood winery overlooks vineyard-studded hills, the town of St. Helena and the Mayacamas Mountains to the west. Long known for his innovative spirit and passion for quality, Joe Phelps pioneered a number of 'firsts' in the early years of the winery. The 1974 Insignia — released in the spring of 1978 — was the first Bordeaux-style blend produced in California under a proprietary label. The release of the 1974 Syrah in 1977 sparked industry-wide interest in a remarkable French varietal whose plantings in California had disappeared and been virtually forgotten for over half a century. And in 1990, after years of research, a whole new family of Rhone-style wines was introduced which today includes Syrah, Viognier and a Chateauneuf-du-Pape style blend called Le Mistral. This Red is a blend of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate-owned Backus Vineyard in Oakville. Once the grapes were harvested at an average 24.5o Brix, they were fermented in stainless steel tanks, and aged 23 months in new French oak barrels before being bottled. The first Backus Cabernet Sauvignon was produced in 1977 from a 6.75 acre parcel leased from Marian Backus, and even then Phelps believed this steeply-terraced hillside vineyard with its brick-red soil was capable of producing outstanding wines. Subsequent vintages, especially during the 90’s, confirmed their belief, and when the entire 45-acre parcel was offered for sale in 1996, Joseph Phelps enthusiastically bought it. Extremely balanced, concentrated and flavourful fruit were used in this Cabernet Sauvignon. Showing trademark flavours of chocolate, berry and mineral, its silky texture and, perhaps most distinctive, powerful, sweet tannins deliverr through to the finsh. (6 x 75 cl)
