Dopff & Irion Gewurztraminer Alsace
Description: The Irion and Dopff families were already wine connoisseurs in the 16th Century and have been closely involved in the fortunes of the village of Rique throughout the ages. The firm of Irion and Dopff was established when Rene Dopff joined fortunes with the widowed Madame Irion. Clustered around Riquewihr, the 27 hectare vineyard worked by Dopff and Irion is extremely well situated. The different types of soil and the varied climate means that rich, powerful and complex wines are created. A pale yellow coloured wine with a light, soft, exotic fruit salad nose. Description: The Gewurztraminer Fleur is well composed, hearty and balanced, yet very discrete and well made. A very refreshing wine, it keeps its flavour in the aging process. The 2000 vintage comes from fully mature vines, planted on very steep slopes with a very low yield. It is a very floral wine with a beautiful gilded yellow colour. It develops a delicate nose of floral aromas. The mouth is soft and is marked by a slightly soft character because of the residual sugars. This wine is a very user-friendly aperitif that will accompany foie gras or any exotic cuisine, like dishes with fines herbes. It pairs well with salty and sweet foods, spices such as curry. Les Sorcieres refers to the part of the Domaines du Chateau de Riquewihr planted with Gewurztraminer. Local legend has it that this is where Witches were burned during the Middle Ages. A Golden yellow coloured wine, it displays subtle, elegant Gewurztraminer aromas. Delicate spice and fruity, this wine is enhanced by hints of smoke and a dash of pepper while developing fragrances of violets, apricots, tropical fruit and roses. Its scents are reflected in the flavours, sustained by hints of ultra-ripe grapes. Supple and fresh, this is a fruity, rich, highly expressive wine with an impressive structure.

Domaine Josmeyer LES ARCHENETS Prestige Selections Gewurztraminer Alsace
Description: The renowned house of Josmeyer was founded in 1854 in Wintzenheim and has been in unbroken family ownership for 5 generations. Grapes are sourced from there own 23 hectares of vineyards, which include some four hectares of the renowned Grands Crus Hengst and Brand. In addition Josmeyer have long term contracts for grapes from a further 12 hectares which are worked to the strict Josmeyer principles. The vines are pruned hard and yields are kept well below the average for Alsace. There is a minimal chemical treatment and grass is grown between the rows to restrict yields and encourage the roots deeper into the subsoil. The vineyards are currently being run under the Lutte Raisonnee scheme but the family have experimented siuccessfully with Biodynamie and are moving resolutely towards conversion of all their sources of grape supply to a fully biodynamic regime. All grapes are handpicked and then whole-bunch pressed prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Only natural yeasts are employed and both chaptalization and malolactic fermentation are avoided so as to ensure that the natural balance of each wine is preserved and the vintage and vineyard differences are emphasised (12 x 75 cl)
