Description: The master mind behind Mateus Rose a world-leading brand was Sogrape's founder Fernando van Zeller Guedes, who cleverly combined the picturesque qualities of the palace with an original style of label and a beautiful bottle shape to create a unique presentation. The birthplace of Mateus Rose is the historic Mansion depicted in the well known label. This country mansion, a masterpiece of the baroque architecture, dates back to the beginning of the 18th century. The wine itself is another inspired creation, its unique colour and taste pleasing lovers of dry and sweet wines alike. The grapes from which Mateus Rose is made are carefully selected from the best quality red varieties grown in Northern Portugal. As with all Sogrape wines, the greatest care is taken at all stages of production, from vintage through to bottling, thus ensuring that the highest possible standards of quality are consistently maintained. A method called 'bica aberta' with long fermentation under controlled temperatures is used to achieve the particularly well-balanced, fresh and fruity quality of the wine. Available in Half Bottles. Croft 1991 Vintage Port
Description: Vintage Ports are made exclusively from the grapes of one harvest. Bottled after two years in casks, it is in the bottle that the long, slow, ageing process transforms the young wine into a magnificent Vintage Port. A Croft Vintage is only declared in years of optimum quality. These demanding standards mean that a Croft Vintage might be declared perhaps only two or three times in a decade. (6 x 75 cl)

W & J Graham's SIX GRAPES Vintage Character Ruby Port
Description: Six Grapes is one of Graham's original Port blends and is thus one of the Company's oldest marks. It is a very full-bodied, luscious wine drawn from the same vineyards as Graham's Vintage Ports. Blended from two or three years' harvests, the wine is an average of five to six years old when bottled. It follows the Graham's Vintage style very closely, although it has softened more quickly by being matured in oak casks rather than in bottle. Its extremely rich fruity style makes it a truly superb, rare and appealing Port. The rather curious depiction on the bottle of bunches of grapes has always been used to identify the "Six Grapes" blend. (6 x 75 cl)

Warre's TRADITIONAL Late Bottled Vintage Port
Description: Warre's is one of the only Port companies always to have made a late bottled vintage in the original way. Today this tradition continues. Carefully selected from the finest wines of a very good year, this port is aged in oak casks for 4 years before being bottled without fining or filtration. This ensures that, as with Vintage Port, the fruit concentration is retained. Once bottled, Warre's Traditional Late Bottled Vintage Port is left to mature for a further 5 years in Warre's own cellars before being offered for sale. It is this prolonged ageing in its own bottle that gives this particular LBV so much outstanding style and complexity. 1992, 1990 and the vintages that preceded them have continued to make their mark on the trade, being awarded no less than 5 gold medals in 8 years by the International Wine Challenge. A true reflection of the quality and style of Warre's bottle matured LBV. (6 x 75 cl)

Calem QUINTA da FOZ Single Quinta 1984 Vintage Port
Description: Quinta is the Portuguese word for vineyard and thus, whenever a vintage port has the word quinta, one can be guaranteed that grapes come entirely from this place. Quinta da Foz is situated in the heart of Port Wine country with steep terraced slopes reaching all the way down to the Douro River. This special vintage has a deep, dark inky colour. Its rich bouquet is predominantly of forest fruits, notably ripe plums and prunes, with touches of cocoa and spices. On tasting it is mature, complex, full and rounded. Using only the best grapes of the 1986 harvest, this vintage port was aged for two years in fine oak vats before bottling. Ready to drink now, it will continue to mature for decades . As vintage port forms a natural deposit, stand the bottle upright for a couple of hours before careful decanting. This is a good vintage to have after a good dinner accompanied by a rich fruit tart or with mature cheeses (6 x 75 cl)

W & J Graham's 1994 Vintage Port
Description: Vintage Ports are only made on very exceptional years . The principal determining factor is the weather in the vineyards which must be ideal throughout the viticultural season and subsequently during the harvest. Only a few exceptional vineyards in the Upper Douro region produce wines of sufficient body and style to make a true Vintage Port. After the harvest, wines of Vintage potential are put into oak barrels called 'pipes'. Some eighteen months later a careful and painstaking series of tastings is held to judge exactly which wines of different vineyards merit inclusion in the final blend. If the ideal blend is achieved, the wine is then bottled without any filtration whatsoever approximately 24 months after the original harvest . Vintage Port must then be matured for some ten to twenty years in cool dark cellars as it gradually achieves the outstanding style of a great wine. The bottles should always be stored lying down. Vintage Ports deposit a heavy sediment or 'crust' in the bottle while maturing and must be decanted prior to serving. A very few Port companies, through having consistently produced great Vintage Ports over many years, enjoy outstanding reputations. Graham's is universally acknowledged to be a leader in this field.
