Jackson Estate VINTAGE WIDOW Pinot Noir Marlborough NZ
Description: The combination of low yields, warm days and cool nights produced very ripe, highly coloured and flavoured Pinot Noir grapes. Traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques such as hand plunging in half tonne fermenters, and ageing in Vosges and Troncais oak barriques were adopted. The result is a concentrated and powerful Pinot Noir showing ripe berries, spices, mushroom and earth aromas with well-integrated oak. The wine will age well for up to six years. (6 x 75 cl)

Redbank THE WIDOW JONES Viognier King Valley Victoria Australia
Description: Redbank’s badge, the Anvil, is a symbol of times gone by when the early settlers handcrafted their farming implements with the heat of the blazing forge and the strength of the anvil. This strength was apparent in the hard working migrants who established a thriving farming community in the rugged High Country of North East Victoria. Today a small, select 'family' of growers, some direct descendents of the original pioneers, produce premium fruit for the wines of Redbank. Vineyards that are lashed by blizzardly cold winter winds and buried in snow for part of the year emerge at harvest with grapes of the highest quality that enable the Redbank winemakers to produce superb cool climate wines. The Viognier fruit was sourced from a single vineyard in the King Valley that boasts deep grey alluvial loams with good drainage leading to modest vigour, perfect for growing varieties such as Viognier. The grapes were hand picked and chilled to maximise aromatics before whole bunch pressing and running into barrel for wild fermentation. The wine was left in barrel on lees to maximise complexity until bottling. The Widow Jones Viognier is a pale gold colour with green tints. It exhibits a classical Viognier nose of white flowers, ripe apricots, fresh cream and ginger. The layered palate entwines ripe fruit with honey, sweet oranges and spice. A luscious wine that is rich but well balanced with zingy acid and great length. These King Valley wines were inspired by the history of Victoria. Long ago it was littered with long abandoned miners camps and long forgotten mine shafts that gave little to the battling prospector of the 1850s gold rush. During the same time notorious bushrangers roamed the high country of North East Victoria robbing the gold and mail coaches and stealing the valuable livestock of wealthy land owners. None was more famous than the legendary Ned Kelly. To some, Ned and his gang were folk heroes as their lightning hit and run skirmishes with the law, brilliant horsemanship and knowledge of the rugged bush continually frustrated the police and local authorities. W & J Graham's 2000 Vintage Port
Description: After the harvest, wines of Vintage potential are put into oak barrels called 'pipes'. Some eighteen months later a careful and painstaking series of tastings is held to judge exactly which wines of different vineyards merit inclusion in the final blend. If the ideal blend is achieved, the wine is then bottled without any filtration whatsoever approximately 24 months after the original harvest. It was immediately evident during the vintage that the wines would be very intense and fruity. This has been borne out by their development and Graham's 1994 Vintage is rich, deep coloured and packed with fruit. It is distinctly reminiscent of the Graham's 1970. One of the top wines of the Vintage, to keep. (12 x 75 cl)

W & J Graham's 1994 Vintage Port
Description: Vintage Ports are only made on very exceptional years . The principal determining factor is the weather in the vineyards which must be ideal throughout the viticultural season and subsequently during the harvest. Only a few exceptional vineyards in the Upper Douro region produce wines of sufficient body and style to make a true Vintage Port. After the harvest, wines of Vintage potential are put into oak barrels called 'pipes'. Some eighteen months later a careful and painstaking series of tastings is held to judge exactly which wines of different vineyards merit inclusion in the final blend. If the ideal blend is achieved, the wine is then bottled without any filtration whatsoever approximately 24 months after the original harvest . Vintage Port must then be matured for some ten to twenty years in cool dark cellars as it gradually achieves the outstanding style of a great wine. The bottles should always be stored lying down. Vintage Ports deposit a heavy sediment or 'crust' in the bottle while maturing and must be decanted prior to serving. A very few Port companies, through having consistently produced great Vintage Ports over many years, enjoy outstanding reputations. Graham's is universally acknowledged to be a leader in this field.
