Description:
La Crema was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the cool Sonoma Coast. Continuing this tradition, La Crema pursues the ultimate expression of the Russian River Valley, Carneros and Anderson Valley by handcrafting wines of distinctive flavour which achieve elegance and balance The Sonoma Coast is located on the western coastal fringe of Sonoma County, starting with a narrow strip at the Mendocino County border and continuing through the mouth of the Russian River; then down to the Sonoma Carneros border of Napa. This AVA is the largest in Sonoma County yet is the least planted. Known for its dramatic flux in temperature, the warm days and cool nights allow gradual ripening of grapes with fully developed flavours, high natural acidity and low pH. The region’s cold conditions push the limits of grape growing making it particularly well suited for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The hand-picked Chardonnay grapes from cool climate vineyards located six to twenty-five miles from the cold Pacific Ocean are delivered to the winery in small half ton bins to protect the integrity of the fruit. Once in the winery the belt delivery system for whole cluster pressing is used to to capture fresh fruit flavours. A clonal selection union of Dijon, Rued, and Wente add layers of complexity and aromatics and then 90% of the fruit undergoes barrel fermentation and 85% malolactic fermentation to enhance creamy textures. Finally, the barrel aged wine is left for seven months with bi-monthly lees stirring to create richness in the mouth. Melissa Stackhouse Wine Maker commented: 'Citrus aromas, lemon peel and green apple are balanced with clove and subtle vanilla in the background. Flavours of green apple, lemon and lime, with an unctuous middle, with spice and caramel that add richness and texture to the lingering finish..' (12 x 37.5 cl)

Hartford Family Winery HARTFORD COURT THREE JACKS VINEYARD Chardonnay Russian River Valley
Description: Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific coast. Three Jacks Vineyard is a small seven-acre property jointly owned by Joe and Steve Dutton. The Duttons refer to the vineyard as Triple J-S vineyard. We began writing JJJ’s on each barrel, and soon the winery workers began calling the wine Three Jacks, and the name stuck. The vineyard is planted with four very distinctive Chardonnay clonal selections: the Raffo and Rued Chardonnay field selections, Dijon Clone 96 and UC Davis Clone 15. Each clone is picked and fermented separately and only the best barrels from each lot are blended to make the final bottling. This cool vineyard site in the Green Valley sub-appellation of the Russian River Valley produces Chardonnay with remarkable personality. Old Wente and Dijon Clones greatly inspire the wine’s floral bouquet and flamboyant fruit qualities. Aromas of Meyer lemon, spiced apple and candied ginger give way to a crushed stone and mineral laden finish. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £291.84

Agustinos AGUSTINOS Chardonnay Reserve Bio Bio Chile
Description: Agustinos is the name of a rural section of the Aconcagua Valley, the original home of the Ibanez family, which christened their first vineyard with the same name. Specially selected grapes were hand-picked at the optimum of their maturity, early in the morning. The grapes went directly from the vineyard to the press, with a short skin contact and soft pressing in order to avoid green extraction. The fermentation, for 70% of this wine, took place in stainless steel tanks under controlled conditions. Thirty percent of this wine was fermented in french oak barrels with partial malolactic fermentation too, and aged six months with regular 'batonnage'. Clean and brilliant yellow Chardonnay with golden reflects. The aroma has a good intensity of fruits like quince, pear and some vanilla notes, while in the mouth it's smooth, with a firm acidity that gives it freshness and length.

Perrier Jouet BELLE EPOQUE Vintage Champagne
Description: This bottle with its swirl of dainty anemones holds Perrier-Jouët's most remarkable champagne and one of the world's best known prestige cuvées. The success story began with the discovery of a bottle designed by Émile Gallé in 1902. The bottle was so strikingly beautiful that Perrier-Jouët resolved to fill it with a prestige champagne. The best grands crus in its vineyard, with a predominance of Chardonnay grapes from the Côte des Blancs district, were blended to make a subtle, elegant, refined champagne. Cuvée Belle Époque was launched in 1969, reminding the world of the house's history and identifying it with an Art Nouveau style. Since then, this champagne has been the emblem of Perrier-Jouët, and the ambassador of its expertise. Apart from making an excellent champagne, Perrier-Jouët was the first champagne house to have dared decorate its bottle with flowers. The flower-covered bottle is now instantly recognised all over the world. The harvest is sometimes so outstanding that Perrier-Jouët decides to make a vintage Cuvée Belle Époque. 1995 was one such year, when the quality of the grapes signalled a remarkable harvest from the outset. All the art of champagne making went into keeping the house style while bringing out the exceptional character of the year. Cuvée Belle Époque 1995 is a harmonious blend of the most prestigious crus in the Champagne wine-making region. The most important are Cramant and Avize for Chardonnay; Mailly, Verzenay, Verzy and Bouzy for Pinot Noir; and Aÿ and Dizy for Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. The cuvée is distinguished by a high proportion of Chardonnay from the best slopes in the Côte des Blancs district. The delicacy and elegance of this grape variety give a finesse, a fruitiness and a bouquet that are truly exceptional. There's depth and power here, along with a firm structure underlying the honey, vanilla and bread dough aromas and flavors. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £520.23
