Graham Beck Wines is now entering its third generation as a family winery. It was established in 1983 when entrepreneur Graham Beck purchased Madeba farm outside the Western Cape town of Robertson with a fervent ambition to establish a world-class winery in this region. Made at the Robertson Cellar this is one of Graham Beck Winery's most popular wines, and is a blend of 86% chardonnay and 14% colombard. Graham Beck’s Robertson cellar and farm are situated in the Breederiver Valley bordering the semi-arid Little Karoo region. The warm climate in combination with mineral and fossil rich soils gives this area a distinct character which reflect into its quality wines. Selection of Chardonnay vineyards was considered very carefully and the vines choosen have been planted on rich limestone soil. The Colombard vines were planted on alluvial soils along the Finch River. The harvest was done by hand and the grapes hand selected, the Chardonnay was picked during cool morning hours during the second week of February 2004 and the Colombard in the same way in the second week of March 2004. Both varieties were handled separately and were destalked, gently crushed and pressed immediately. The juice is settled overnight and then transferred to stainless steel tanks for fermentation at 14° to 16°C. Some of the Chardonnay and Colombard were fermented with staves. After fermentation the wine was left on it's lees for 6 weeks, during this time the lees was stirred once a week to aid in the mouth feel of the final blend. No malolactic was encouraged to ensure freshness and zestiness. The wine was then racked and prepared for bottling. This blend has a wonderful fresh lime aromas mixed with tropical zestiness on the nose. Good firm acidity with lots of citrus, melon and grapefruit flavours on the palate. Delightful wine with a long finish, this wine is to be enjoyed youthful. (12 x 75 cl)

Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville California
Description: At 90 years of age, Robert Mondavi remains the global emissary for these wine. His vision was to create wines in California that belong in the company of the great wines of the world. Robert Mondavi is known for producing hand-crafted wines of distinct style. Representing the best of California wine growing regions, including the legendary Napa Valley, each of the wines offers unique qualities and characteristics. Robert Mondavi Winery is located in the heart of Napa Valley, California. The first major winery built in Napa Valley in the post-Prohibition era, Robert Mondavi Winery helped establish the foundation for the modern-day California wine business. Its mission-style architecture, with the expansive archway and bell tower designed by Cliff May, has become an enduring landmark that evokes California's winemaking history. All of the grapes for this wine were grown in the world-renowned Oakville region surrounding our winery. Designated an American Viticultural Area in 1993, Oakville is distinguished by an alluvial fan extending from the base of the Mayacamas Mountains that form the valley's western border. The Oakville bench, which lies against the hills, has well-drained soils that allow deep rooting and the development of complex flavours in the grapes. Mondavi selected all Oakville bench vineyards for this wine, including 82% from Robert Mondavi's historic To Kalon Vineyard. Mondavihand-harvested the grapes into 40-lb. boxes during the cool morning hours. The clusters were then hand-sorted on tables in the To Kalon fermentation cellar for optimum quality. The grapes were destemmed and lightly crushed directly into a new 17-ton oak fermentation tank. The must was fermented with a combination of native and cultured yeast for layers of complexity, and follwed this with 24.5 days of skin contact to soften tannins. After the free-run wine was drained off the pomace, the drop-gate was opened to gravity-convey the pomace to a gentle basket press. The wine was then gravity-fed to barrels to undergo malolactic fermentation and ageing. To achieve natural clarity, the wine was racked three times during 16 months of ageing in traditional French oak chateau barrels . The wine was then bottled without fining or filtration. The ripe, sweet fruit character of the Cabernet Sauvignon exudes creme de cassis and juicy blackberry character. Complex nuances of spices, vanilla, minerals and cedar weave through the lush fruit flavours culminating in a long finish. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £143.29

Maison Bouachon DUC DE MONTFORT Gigondas
Description: The Bouachon family have maintained their stewardship of some of the finest wines in the Rhone since 1898 and the Gigondas marries strength and generosity. Duc de Montfort is produced from vines growing on the middle terrace, an extremely sunny rocky plateau overhanging the left bank of the Ouvèze, on the western slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail hills. Montfort was the name the elders of this region gave to this hardest part of the Dentelles, with its granite origins produced from the folding of the Alps. The grenache noir is largely predominant in the blend , giving the wine its strength and sweetness. The syrah supports it and gives the wine a fine aromatic richness. Harvesting is by hand and the grapes are carefully sorted. The 2 grape varieties are vinified separately. Skin fermentation lasts for approximately 3 weeks, with daily pumping over and weekly crushing. After fermentation, the vintage is blended and then matured for several months in our oak casks. It is during the maturing process in the cellars that this wine reaches its full harmony. The wine has a fine purple robe with plum-coloured shades. The first impact on the nose is cocoa, followed by jammy notes , completed by spices and, above all, leather. Strong, well-balanced mouth with presence of silky tannins, it is well structured and generous, and the finish develops into notes of red plum. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £91.08

Goriska Brda QUERCUS Pinot Bianco Slovenia
Description: The Goriska Brda wine cellar was built in 1957 and is a great viticultural region. The Slovenian word 'brda' means 'hills' and this is the simplest description of Goriska Brda: a region of low rounded hills in the western part of Slovenia, with a Mediterranean climate. The soils of Goriska Brda are marl and sandstone and the hills are very prone to erosion, so most of the vineyards must be terraced. Near the coast the vineyards open out towards the Mediterranean and take advantage of 2,900 sunny hours a year. This wine is a yellow-gold colour with fresh-fruit aromas as well as hints of apple, strawberry leaves, grapefruit, quince, and also caramel. The body is round and rich, with a lemon and grapefruit appeal and a nice finish. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £86.50
