Ca'Montebello Rosso Pinot Nero Oltrepo Pavese Lombardia DOC
Description: Pinot nero is one of the greatest red grape vines that have found favourable position on the hills of Oltrepo, though the production is scarce, the quality is excellent. After a careful examination of the indications of ripeness, the grapes are harvested by hand, undergoing a further selection. After being stripped of the stalk and pressed, the grapes are then subjected to a process of maceration which lasts between eight and ten days, depending on the distinctive features of the vintage year; this process takes place in stainless steel tanks, with frequent repassing of must over the grape dregs. At the end of the malolactic fermentation, the wine is transferred into barrels where it is refined, and then poured into bottles. This interesting Pinot nero appears immediately inviting with its dark red, almost impenetrable colour. The winy scents open on fruity notes of blackberries and raspberries. The wine offers abalanced, well-rounded mouthfeel, pleasantly silky and fresh. (6 x 75 cl)

Robert Mondavi PRIVATE SELECTION Pinot Noir Central Coast California
Description: At 90 years of age, Robert Mondavi remains the global emissary for these wine. His vision was to create wines in California that belong in the company of the great wines of the world. Robert Mondavi is known for producing hand-crafted wines of distinct style. Representing the best of California wine growing regions, including the legendary Napa Valley, each of the wines offers unique qualities and characteristics. Robert Mondavi have long recognized the distinctive vineyards of California's coast. For decades they have sourced fruit from coastal regions, and in 1994 introduced Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines to exhibit the high quality and character of the coastal grapes and vineyards. For vivid fruit expression, Mondavi harvested 95% of the grapes from Monterey County, with the balance from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. Approximately half of the Pinot Noir grapes were harvested from its own vineyards, the balance from well known local growers. This wine has a little Syrah and this has come from both San Luis Obispo and Monterey Counties. To achieve the fruit-forward style of this Pinot Noir Mondavi lightly crushed the grapes and fermented the must in temperature controlled tanks. After the wine fermented dry , it was left on the skins with the wine for a total of 13 days to naturally soften tannins and develop varietal complexity. The wine completed malolactic fermentation for roundness and depth and was aged for five months, in a combination of new and older French and American oak barrels, to add toasty nuances to the lush fruit flavours. Additionally, a blend of 5% Syrah enhances the spicy profile of the wine. The wine's silky layers of cherry, raspberry and red plum intertwine with fragrant allspice and floral accents. Ageing in small, French oak barrels adds spicy, toasty nuances that continue through the lingering finish. (6 x 75 cl)

Papapietro Perry Winery Pinot Noir Russian River Valley California
Description: Papapietro Perry’s foundation is a long friendship among work colleagues with common interests and a driving passion to make fine wine. Ben Papapietro and Bruce Perry met during their careers with the San Francisco Newspaper Agency, publisher of the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner. As their friendship developed, they discovered they both came from families where Grandpa’s homemade wine was as common on the dinner table as vegetables from Mom’s garden. Their interest in wine spilled into another friendship at work, this time with Burt Williams, a pressman and co-founder of Williams Selyem Winery. In the ‘70s, Ben helped Bert make garragista wine in Bert's garage in Sonoma County. After Williams Selyem was started, Ben and Bruce helped out each year at harvest—and were seriously bitten by the wine bug. In 1980, Ben began producing his own garragista wines and Bruce joined him a few years later. Inspired by his love of French Burgundies, Ben began making Pinot Noir, diligently seeking high-quality grapes to produce his favorite varietal. By 1990, Ben was purchasing Pinot Noir grapes from some of the most highly-regarded Pinot producers in the Russian River Valley. After several years of hearing friends and family praise their homemade wines, in 1998 Ben and Bruce took the plunge and produced their first commercially available Pinot Noir. Although the first release was only 75 cases, it marked the launch of Papapietro Perry Winery. The Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a blend from three carefully-selected vineyards in the appellation including Leras Family Vineyards, Elsbree Vineyards and Windsor Oaks. Although close in proximity each holds its own distinction Papapietro Perry Winery feel they are among the best the Russian River Valley has to offer. Medium-deep ruby colour with aromas of fruit, spice, smoke and earth. Flavours of red cherry, berry, spice, and minerals satisfy the palate while the sweet oak, solid structure, and firm tannins lead to a long and balanced finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Jackson Wine Estates CAMBRIA JULIA'S VINEYARD Pinot Noir Santa Maria Valley California
Description: Cambria's proximity to the ocean and east-west orientation gives this 1,405-acre property the diversity it needs to grow Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah under perfectly suited conditions. As an estate property, Cambria's Vineyard Manager and Winemaker work in tandem to perfect the winegrowing process. Together, they select only the finest grapes from the estate to bear the Cambria name. Every grape is hand-harvested and crafted into wine with the utmost care and respect for the varietal. This 100% Estate grown Pinot Noir has spent 6 months ageing in French oak and Winemaker Denise Shurtleff considered: 'Julia’s Pinot Noir offers abundant ripe cherry, grape, and strawberry flavours that open into underlying earth tones. A round mid-palate leads to vanilla and cinnamon spice on the silky finish.' In 1986 Barbara Banke and her husband, Jess Jackson, bought the premium acres of the Tepusquet Vineyard with the intent of establishing a family-owned estate property that farmed and crafted exceptional wines. Since then, her vision has become reality. Cambria has carved out a reputation for lush, tropical Chardonnay, velvety-textured Pinot Noir and rich, spicy Syrah, all grown on one contiguous property. In recent years Cambria has concentrated its vineyard and winemaking resources into amplifying different aspects of the Cambria estate. This effort launched an in-depth exploration of the vineyard and varieties on this cool-climate property. The result has elevated the quality of Cambria's core wines, created new site-focused and distinct winemaking styles, and dramatically highlighted the bold flavours of each variety. (12 x 75 cl)

Gallo Family Vineyards SONOMA COUNTY Pinot Noir California
Description: Winemaking has been a tradition in the Gallo family for almost 70 years and in developing the Ernest & Julio Gallo Sonoma wines, the winemakers have made a careful journey from vine to wine. The journey begins in Sonoma County where cool ocean breezes, lingering coastal fog and the warm sun nurture the ripening grapes. It ends with patient barrel-by-barrel tasting during fermentation and ageing to ensure that the potential tasted on the vine is captured in the bottle. More than other varietals, perhaps, Pinot Noir is a winemaker's wine, especially in the opportunities it provides for finessing delicate nuances of flavour or character. California's Sonoma County makes this challenge even more appealing by the excellent quality of its Pinot Noir grapes. Vineyards near the coast offer virtually ideal weather conditions with warm daytime temperatures during the growing season, followed by heavy fog intrusion at night and dramatically cooler conditions. Such a climate cycle slows down the ripening process, enabling Pinot Noir to develop crisp acids, good colour and great depth of flavour on the vine. Once in the winery the grapes were de-stemmed to limit the extraction of bitter tannin and delivered to the fermenting tanks uncrushed, since broken and macerated skins can be another source of excess tannin in the finished wine. Fermentation with 20-30% whole berries results in Pinot Noir rounder in body and fresher in flavour. The wine was 100% barrel aged for 6 months, during which time it gained greater complexity by completing a secondary cycle of malolactic fermentation. This care has produced a distinct fruit-forward character with intense flavours of dark red fruit-cherry and ripe raspberry. This Pinot Noir is framed by fresh earthy notes and a velvety finish showing a subtle layer of sweet vanilla oak. (6 x 75 cl)

Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir Carneros Napa Valley California
Description: At 90 years of age, Robert Mondavi remains the global emissary for these wine. His vision was to create wines in California that belong in the company of the great wines of the world. Robert Mondavi is known for producing hand-crafted wines of distinct style. Representing the best of California wine growing regions, including the legendary Napa Valley, each of the wines offers unique qualities and characteristics. Robert Mondavi Winery is located in the heart of Napa Valley, California. The first major winery built in Napa Valley in the post-Prohibition era, Robert Mondavi Winery helped establish the foundation for the modern-day California wine business. Its mission-style architecture, with the expansive archway and bell tower designed by Cliff May, has become an enduring landmark that evokes California's winemaking history. Mondavi hand-selected 93% of the grapes for this wine from the Los Carneros region, which spans the southernmost tip of Napa and Sonoma Valleys. This region, designated an American Viticultural Area in 1983, has become famous for developing intensely-flavored Pinot Noir grapes that produce wines with vibrant fruit character. The Los Carneros AVA is known for its strong winds, nutrient-lean, clay loam soils and a nightly blanket of cold fog rolling off the San Francisco Bay. 45% of the harvested came from grapes at the Robert Mondavi Huichica Hills Vineyard, a site planted to more than 23 clones of Pinot Noir for flavour complexity in the wine. The clones were selected for their small, flavour-intense berries, looser clusters and color intensity. The balance of the wine comes from other cool climate vineyards with complementary flavours. This Pinot Noir wine has opulent flavours and a silky, seductive texture giving the wine layer upon layer of dark red cherry, floral, cola and spice character. (12 x 75 cl)
