Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley California
Description: At 90 years of age, Robert Mondavi remains the global emissary for these wine. His vision was to create wines in California that belong in the company of the great wines of the world. Robert Mondavi is known for producing hand-crafted wines of distinct style. Representing the best of California wine growing regions, including the legendary Napa Valley, each of the wines offers unique qualities and characteristics. Robert Mondavi Winery is located in the heart of Napa Valley, California. The first major winery built in Napa Valley in the post-Prohibition era, Robert Mondavi Winery helped establish the foundation for the modern-day California wine business. Its mission-style architecture, with the expansive archway and bell tower designed by Cliff May, has become an enduring landmark that evokes California's winemaking history. Mondavi selected the majority of the grapes from the center of Napa Valley, a region well known for producing intensely flavoured Cabernet family grape varieties. The balance of sunny days and cool, foggy nights in Napa Valley is perfect for developing complex, ripe flavours and supple tannins in Cabernet Sauvignon. A range of soils-from alluvial to lean volcanic-contributes to the diverse flavours in this wine. Mondavi chose 35% of the grapes from the Oakville AVA, including 33% from Robert Mondavi To Kalon Vineyard, and 22% from the Stags Leap District AVA, including 7% from Robert Mondavi Wappo Hill Vineyard. The balance of the grapes came from the Rutherford AVA and other Napa Valley vineyards. Ripe dark berry, spice, violet and chocolate weave through the aromas and smooth, velvety flavours of this Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. These rich, expressive flavours come from the soils and climates of vineyards located primarily in the geographic center of Napa Valley. Firm tannins support the abundant fruit character and give the wine excellent length on the palate. Fermentation with both cultured and native yeast strains gives layers of nuance to the wine, and extended skin contact intensifies varietal complexity and softens tannins. Finally, Mondavi aged the wine in French oak chateau barrels for over 18 months to enhance the lush texture and add spicy oak accents to this wine. (12 x 75 cl)

Bodegas Pinord CHATELDON Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon Penedes
Description: The history of Bodegas Pinord can be traced back to the time when, over one hundred and fifty years ago, the Tetas family began making white and red wines on their estate in Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues from grapes they themselves had grown. Even at that time they produced and aged the wines using the most traditional methods employed in the region. In 1942, José María Tetas set up the current winery in Vilafranca del Penedès, just four kilometres from the original estate. Having inherited the family methods and traditions, it has gradually grown until it has now become one of the most highly reputed wineries in the region. Clean, dark mahogany in colour with reddish-brown overtones this wine has an extremely intense bouquet reminiscent of the casks in which the wine was aged, as well as certain vanilla hints and spices such as black pepper. These aromas mingle with those of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety to create a very special personality. The Cabernet variety can be appreciated much more in the mouth, although this highly characteristic taste is somewhat softened by the 14-months ageing period in oak casks and the further two years ageing in the bottle. This has produced a wine with a great harmony of flavours and roundness while it is extremely persistent and long-lasting. (12 x 75 cl)

Althaus DOMAINE A Cabernet Sauvignon Tasmania
Description: Peter and Ruth Althaus' 20ha property in the Coal River Valley in Southern Tasmania is truly remarkable in that the Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc that it produces is not just high quality but is truly of world class. Here they are producing not only the 'Stoney Vineyard' but the 'Domaine A' range of wines. Peter Althaus was formerly a business man with IBM, working in Geneva. Having developed a palate for fine European wine and a curiosity for how he could set about making it, the Althaus' set about finding a vineyard site with potential to make outstanding wines. Virtually all of the European sites had already been identified so the search was extended to the Southern hemisphere. Peter long favoured the Central Otago region of New Zealand but eventually settled on the tiny 1 hectare property that today forms Domaine A. Since 1989, when they took over the Domaine, planting has increased to 20 hectares and includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc. Vines are densely planted and the sloping North/North East aspect coupled with a temperate maritime climate ensures that the grapes have a long, cool growing season (12 x 75 cl)

Bergsig Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Breede River Valley RSA

De Wet Lategan is the sixth generation winemaker and has obtained a BSc degrees in Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch, before joining the family firm in 1990. This encouraged Prop Lategan to plant more red varieties and today 20% of all plantings are Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot, Pinotage, Ruby Cabernet and Tinta Barocca. Gallo Family Vineyards BARRELLI CREEK Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley California
Description: Our Barrelli Creek Cabernet Sauvignon is a complex and intense wine with aromas and flavors of black currant, black cherry, and cassis. With balanced tannins and sweet vanilla and spice flavors from oak barrel aging, this wine has a smooth finish. With three generations and over six decades of experience in northern Sonoma, our family believes that the secret to producing world class wines is to start with world class grapes. We meticulously shoot positioned and cluster thinned grapes for this wine from only the finest blocks at our Barrelli Creek Vineyard. Grapes for this wine were de-stemmed, but not crushed, to retain 20%-30% whole berries for fermentation. This process allows us to better retain the grape's varietal essence and minimize bitter tannin extraction in the wine. The wine was aged in European, French, and American oak barrels for an average of 25 months. This wine then completed malolactic fermentation and, to enhance bouquet, flavor, and body was not fined and only minimally filtered prior to bottling. 96% Barrelli Creek Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Barrelli Creek Petite Syrah In the hillside benchlands of the Alexander Valley, winegrowing at our family's Barrelli Creek Vineyard began over a century ago when Italian immigrants first planted vines. Grapes grown on this site are enhanced by soils comprised of gravel, sand, silt, and clay; described as Clough, Arbuckle, and Haire series. In addition, the temperate, Region III climate that makes this one of the warmest of our Sonoma County vineyards, adds richness, depth, and intensity to the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown here. Vidal Estate Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Hawke's Bay NZ
Description: Vidal Wines, founded in 1905, is one of Hawke's Bays oldest boutique wineries, and is a producer of premium quality wines that truly reflect the region and vineyards from which they were sourced. Vidal Wines gained its name from its founder, Anthony Joseph Vidal. He was 22 years old when he arrived in New Zealand from Spain in 1888. He moved North to Hawke's Bay where in 1905 he purchased a small property in Hastings. Once the stables that occupied the site were converted into a cellar, Anthony set about planting some grapevines. Thereafter, success lead to expansion with further vineyard plantings in Te Awanga and then Te Mata. Passing from family memebr to family member, the Vidal family made a decision to sell in the early 1970's and for a while the winery experienced some instability. This changed in 1976 when George Fistonich bought the winery and began to steadily restore the Vidal reputation as a quality wine producer. This Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon also has a small proportion of Malbec in the blend. Overall the wine has spicy plum and tobacco aromas which lead into a palate that shows rich Merlot and Malbec black plum and red berry-fruit characters. While young, the tannins will be firm and fine-grained but will soften over time. (6 x 75 cl)
