Gallo Family Vineyards COASTAL VINEYARDS Chardonnay North Coast
Description: Our Chardonnay is a fruity wine with a firm structure, crisp acidity and spicy notes. Enjoy this wine with creamy chicken, baked salmon or shrimp salad. The grapes for our Ernest & JulioGallo Coastal Vineyards Chardonnay were harvested from the North Coast appellation. The North Coast includes four growing regions: Mendocino, Lake, Sonoma and Napa Counties. Beginning 100 km north of San Francisco, this region is characterized by the fog that drifts in from the San Francisco and San Pablo Bays. This cool coastal fog tempers the warm daytime environment, therefore creating the perfect climate for growing well-balanced grapes. The areas contain benchland soils with well-drained thinner top soils, conducive to producing less quantity and higher quality fruit per vine. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £67.42

Gallo Family Vineyards SONOMA COUNTY Zinfandel California Description: Winemaking has been a tradition in the Gallo family for almost 70 years and in developing the Ernest & JulioGallo Sonoma wines, the winemakers have made a careful journey from vine to wine. The journey begins in Sonoma County where cool ocean breezes, lingering coastal fog and the warm sun nurture the ripening grapes. It ends with patient barrel-by-barrel tasting during fermentation and ageing to ensure that the potential tasted on the vine is captured in the bottle. Great wine is made in the vineyard and much of Sonoma's success is rooted in a consistent pattern of warm days and cool nights during the summer months. Such climate makes for a long growing season with plenty of hang-time for the grapes, producing full-bodied vintages as well as being rich in concentrated flavours of ripe plum, dark berry and spice. Upon their arrival at the winery, the grapes were de-stemmed but not crushed, resulting in 20-30% whole berries. Next, they were cold soaked with the skins for 24 hours, a technique that helps stabilize and capture delicate flavour nuances. Primary fermentation was accomplished in mostly upright, stainless steel tanks and lasted no more than 5 days at temperatures ranging from 88-92 F. The wine was then barrel aged for an average of 5 months in new and seasoned oak to enhance complexity and smoothness. Very much a Sonoma Zinfandel, displaying all of the characteristic power and grace for which the county has become famous. Exciting aromas of dark plum and cherry richly foreshadow an even deeper palate of berry pie, black fruit jam and spice. Barrel ageing has not only given this vintage well-balanced structure; it has added warm notes of coconut and vanilla to the finish. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £71.03

Gallo Family Vineyards ESTATE Chardonnay Northern Sonoma California Description: After the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, Ernest & JulioGallo started their winery in California. The Gallo philosophy of continual improvement saw JulioGallo travelling throughout California seeking high quality grapes and vineyards; he came to the conclusion that Sonoma County has the finest growing area in California. Its complex geography provides an endless variety of growing conditions, and eleven viticultural appellations have been established in Sonoma. Grapes from Estate vineyard blocks located in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley were used for this wine. Gallo has achieved a worldwide reputation for producing Chardonnay grapes full of character and concentrated varietal flavour here. Sometimes referred to as a cool climate growing region, the Russian River Valley benefits from its proximity to the nearby Pacific Ocean. Warm daytime temperatures routinely cool down at night as a result of marine fog intrusion. Such a weather phenomena slows the ripening process, allowing the grapes more time to deepen and develop character. The soil found at Laguna Ranch also plays an important role. Known as 'Sebastopol' series, it represents a mixture of gravelly and sandy loam ideal for growing world-class Chardonnay grapes. Winemaking has been a tradition in the Gallo family for almost 70 years and the Estate bottled range is one of their flagship wines. All grapes were harvested by hand and whole cluster pressed in the winery. New French oak barrels were used to age sur lies for 11 months while being stirred every 2 to 3 weeks. The vintage distinguishes itself by being powerful, focused and elegant all at the same time. With layer after layer of flavour and beautifully integrated textures, it is nothing short of extraordinary, a winning combination of New World fruit and Old World craftsmanship. Gallo Family Vineyards ESTATE Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County
Description: Winemaking has been a tradition in the Gallo family for almost 70 years and the Estate bottled range is one of their flagship wines. The grapes were specifically selected by the Gallo winemakers from one of their family vineyards, Stefani Vineyard, located in Sonoma County. Sonoma is situated 100 km north of San Francisco, west of Napa, and alongside the Pacific Ocean. In the northern region of Sonoma County lies Dry Creek Valley, where Stefani Vineyard rests in the central corridor. Vines were first planted here by the Stefani family at the turn of the century. The soil consists of as much as 30% gravel and small stones, a combination of Pleasanton and Clough series. Today, this unique climate/soil combination produces Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with intense cassis and black cherry aromas complemented by cedary, spicy flavours in the finish. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were 100% estate grown and hand harvested. To intensify varietal character, Gallo employed site-specific vertical trellising, and used meticulous shoot and leaf removal to ensure the grape clusters received just the right amount of sunlight exposure for optimal ripening. The hand-harvested clusters were de-stemmed but not crushed, to increase the percentage of whole berries in the fermenter and reduce the potential for bitter tannin extraction. Once dry, the free-run wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels for an average of 21 months to enhance bouquet, flavour and body. The wine completed malolactic fermentation, and was bottled unfined and with minimal filtration. This Ernest & JulioGallo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied wine with firm tannins and a deep red colour. It exhibits complex layers of black cherry and plum aromas enhanced by spicy notes on a long finish. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £244.46
