Description:
Castello di Brolio sits on a historic three thousand acre Estate in Gaiole in Chianti that was ceded to the Ricasoli family in 1141 by the Republic of Florence. For over 900 years, the Estate has produced some of the most important wines in all of Italy. Today, under the leadership of Baron Francesco Ricasoli, the 32nd Baron of Brolio, Castello di Brolio continues its leadership in the production of fine wine. The grapes are harvested in the beginning of September to mid October and fermentation takes place in Stainless steel with maceration of 18 days for Sangiovese and 16 days for Merlot. This is followed by 18 months in barriques. Casalferro carries the name of the vineyard from where the grapes originate and is a modern winemaking interpretation combined with the best Ricasoli tradition. The wine is has a complex, intense and persistent bouquet with smoky, almost mineral overtones. Soft and velvety tannins are evident in the wine which is characterised by its full-body and a long, intense finish. (6 x 75 cl)

The Sangiovese is harvested at the end of September to mid October. Maceration takes place in Stainless steel tanks for 16 days and aged 20 months, partyl in barriques and partly tonneaux. The name of this wine is linked with an old property of the Ricasoli family and exalts a smooth and volutptuous taste. Ruby red coloured wine with aromas of blackberry, raspberry, violets and vanilla. Rounded and mellow this wine has a velvety body, generous flavor, rich in tannins and a great finish. Located in Gaiole in Chianti, it has one of the longest histories of any wine estate in the world, having produced wine since 1141. In 1993, Barone Francesco Ricasoli took back control of the estate, spending millions of dollars replanting vineyards and upgrading the cellars. Today, Brolio is again one of Tuscany's leading wine estates. Using the traditional method of vinification the Malvasia , Canaiolo and Sangiovese grapes selected are hung clusters and left to wither for approximately four months in a ventilated atmosphere. The must obtained is fermented slowly for approximately 2 years, and then aged a further 3 years in the barrel. This traditional method of making Vin Santo has produced a dessert wine with a beautiful deep golden colour with amber hues.
