Description:
Brett Howard, winemaker at Blewitt Springs, grew up on his parents' vineyard at McLaren Vale and has the wine industry in his blood. Before starting his own company he gathered experience in both large, established wine companies and smaller, specialist boutique wineries. He uses this experience to good effect at Blewitt Springs where he aims to offer quality and value, producing wines of richness, intensity and longevity. Fruit is sourced from the Blewitt Springs area of the McLaren Vale, its higher altitude, deep draining sandy soil and cooler micro-climate giving intense flavours and good structure. Langhorne Creek and Adelaide Plains fruit is also used giving wines with a natural softness and generous, full body. Once in the winery small French oak barrels are used to mature the Blewitt Springs reds while whites may go through malolactic fermentation for added complexity and longevity. Around 11,000 cases are produced per year. Brett's careful and informed winemaking ensures that the natural balance, structure and flavour of the fruit are always kept firmly in focus. This has produced a lovely yellow coloured wine dominated by ripe tropical fruit flavours, while subtle oak and a creamy texture are balanced by acidity leading to a lingering finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Omaka Springs Estate Riesling Marlborough NZ
Description: Omaka Springs Estates is a family business owned by Geoff and Robina Jensen. The vineyards consist of 178 acres that lie across the Omaka Valley in the heart of Marlborough’s wine growing area. The first vines were planted in 1989 and further developed when Omaka Springs Estates were established in 1992. The winemaker Ian Marchant has been with Omaka Springs since 1997 and this Sauvignon Blanc is grown in a perfect combination of warm sunny days and cool nights to produce the highest quality grapes for use in their wines. The grapes were machine harvested on the morning in early May when they were at full ripe maturity. After careful extraction the juice was settled and racked off the lees before fermenting at 12°C. Fermentation was stopped to achieve the desired residual sugar level and the wine held in temperature controlled conditions until final filtering just two months later. Great care from the vineyard to the winery has produced pale straw coloured wine with green tints. On the nose are lemon and lime-evoking aromas that develop on the palate of this zesty wine.

Four new clones of Pinot Noir were used to create this wine. The fruit was hand picked in the cool of the early morning, crushed and cold soaked for seven days. It underwent a warm ferment before going into new French oak barriques. This wine was bottled without fining or filtration. Great care from the vineyard to the winery has produced a deep ruby red coloured wine with purple tints. The nose is deep and warm showing cherry/plum and spice flavours while the palate is displaying a mouth filling body, ripe fine tannins and a supple finish. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £123.93
