Founded in 1972 by Warren and Barbara Winiarski, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars produces wines it describes as ‘classical’. The now legendary 1976 Paris Tasting at which the 1973 Stag’s Leap Cabernet Sauvignon triumphed over the cream of Bordeaux, propelled the estate into the pre-eminent position it still retains today. Arcadias vivid perfume, elegant balance, and bright acidity are all evident in this great Chardonnay. The characteristic bouquet of jasmine tea is accented with a hint of candied lemon zest, while in the mouth there’s bright apple and citrus flavours, a slightly creamy texture, and a signature flinty note. Smooth yet crisp, the wine offers great purity of flavour all the way through the lingering finish, which is accented with hints of vanilla and biscuit. (12 x 75 cl)

Description: Part of Jackson Wine Estates, La Crema winery was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This wine is from the Anderson Valley known for sloping hillside benches thta are blanketed by cool fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean during the heat of the summer growing season. These moderating conditions are ideal in cultivating Pinot Noir with naturally bright acidity and delicate red cherry and cranberry fruit aromas. The Anderson Valley is Mendocino’s premier growing region for Pinot Noir and this wine used the Dijon, heirloom Martini and Pommard clones to enhance the aroma and complexity. In the vineyard fruit-thinning is undertaken to remove late flowering clusters ensuring even ripening throughout the vineyards. Next the fruit is handpicked from the cool climate vineyards and delivered to the winery in small half ton bins to protect the integrity of the fruit. Once in the winery the Pinot Noir grapes are put on to a belt delivery system with sorting table to purge damaged fruit. Here only 70% of the whole berries are selected before fermentation takes place for greater fruit expression. Next a five day, 48 degree cold soak is completed before fermentation so that it enhances the silky tannin texture. Open top fermentation with cap punch downs four times daily extracts precise colour before the wine is aged 10 months in 100% French oak barrels refines the finish. Finally the Pinot Noir is bottled unfiltered and unfined to express the pure character of this great varietal. Winemaker Melissa Stackhouse had the following comments to make about this wine: 'Exotic aromas are delicate and floral with a hint of blueberry and herbal black tea. The flavours are focused on lush dark red cherry fruit which provides an enticing plush texture. Description: Hawk Crest is the companion brand or 'house wine' of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. Representing fine quality Hawk Crest wines have been handcrafted by the Winiarski family in the Napa Valley since 1974. Hawk Crest winemaker Mark Smith draws on two distinct areas in California to craft this approachable yet well structured Cabernet Sauvignon. The climate and diverse soils of Paso Robles in California’s Central Coast provide bright red berry fruit, while the high altitude and volcanic soils of the Red Hills district in Lake County give the wine structure and depth. Additionally, small percentages of Merlot, for texture and mouthfeel, and Petit Verdot, for mid-palate grip and intensity, were also added. The wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels for added complexity and polish. An outstanding first impression with its vibrant ruby colour and distinctive aromas of black cherry, spice, black pepper and tobacco. This gives way to Silky tannins and dark cherry flavours that stand out against a backdrop of spicy notes and hints of vanilla. Once ready the grapes are hand-picked from cool climate vineyards, delivered to the winery in small, half ton bins to protect the integrity of the fruit. Once in the Winery a belt delivery system for whole cluster pressing is used to capture fresh fruit flavours and minerality. 100% barrel fermentation and 100% malolactic fermentation take place in French oak barrels, . Next barrel aged sur lie occurs for 10 months with bi-monthly lees stirring for creamy mouthfeel. Finally, the wine is bottled unfiltered to express the pure character of the Chardonnay. Winemaker Melissa Stackhouse had the following comments to make about this wine: 'Peach, mango, Pippen apple and lemon drop meld into a wonderful combination of fruit, which is balanced by hazelnut, ginger and subtle butterscotch.
