Vesevo GrecodiTufo DOCG Campania
Description: Made from 100% Greco grapes, Vesevo GrecodiTufo has a bright, straw yellow colour, and an attractive, fresh fruit and floral nose. With hints of white peach on the palate, it is almost Viognier-like in style and has excellent length, with a dry, fresh finish. The Vesevo estate is located in the high, mountainous area of Avellino, known as the Switzerland of the south. Avellino is in the Irpinian hills in Campania. The vineyards are situated at between 450 and 550 metres above sea level, in the path of cool breezes blowing off the Bay of Naples. This same breeze has, over the centuries, blown volcanic ash from Vesuvius inland to give the soil here a poor, volcanic character. Indeed, the name Vesevo is the old name for Vesuvius. Despite being so far south, this is one of the latest regions in Italy to harvest. To keep the flavours of these vineyards in the wine, the must is chilled immediately and fermented at 13°-14°C rather than the higher fermentation temperatures prevalent in Italy. The wines then remain in stainless steel tanks until bottling, capturing the pure flavour of the wine. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £128.68
