TwoHands EDWARD & HARRY'S GARDEN Shiraz LanghorneCreek SouthAustralia Description: The 'twohands' are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz based wines from prized Shiraz producing regions within Australia. Michael Twelftree, initially from a construction background, spent a number of years exporting Australian Wine to the USA and Asia. Richard Mintz a chartered accountant, was formerly C.E.O. of one of Australia's leading Cooperage's in the Barossa Valley, SouthAustralia. With Twelftree's contacts and wine savvy approach and Mintz's management skills and business acumen, the two old friends decided to make some wine together. In 2000 they started with just 17 tonnes of fruit from the McLaren Vale and Padthaway wine regions. From the beginning the wines were very well received at home and abroad with a healthy stream of reviews culminating in 2004 with Robert M. Parker pronouncing TwoHands as 'the finest negociant operation south of the equator'. Great care is taken from the vineyard to the winery in making this wine that is finally aged 14 months in 20% new French oak hogsheads, 10% 1 year old French oak, the balance in 3 & 4 year old French and American oak. The resultant wines show excellent colour and perfume with excellent acid and tannin balance. The wine shows all the LanghorneCreek trademarks of wet ash, mint, charcoal, wet stones and grilled nuts. The palate takes off with cascading layers of mulberries and plums, while this Shiraz comes over a little dense and sweet but after a boatload of fruit and a little oak you are left with a mouthful of fresh fruity tannin. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £301.09

After spending 14 months in 20% new French oak, 20% 1 year old French oak, with the balance in 2 and 3 year old French oak this very attractive wine shows why LanghorneCreek is one of Australia's great terroirs. Ruby red in colour this wine is showing opulent aromas of plum, maraschino cherry fruit as well as clove and cedar oak hints. On the palate it develops more plums, wild berries and cream flavours that lingers with ripe fine tannins and subtle French oak. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £303.37
