Description: Jean-Claude BoissetBourgogneChardonnay is bright, light gold in colour with a rich, buttery perfume. It has intense fruit on the palate with an excellent balance between ripe, biscuity flavours, a steely, mineral character and a long, fresh finish. It is a blend of fruit sourced from Rully, the Cote D’Or and the Maconnais which adds nuances of flavour and depth to the finished wine. Almost half of the fruit is organically grown from low-yielding vineyards. The wine is barrel fermented using natural yeasts. The head winemaker, Gregory Patriat eschews battonage as he doesn’t like the fatness it lends to wines, preferring instead to allow the inherent elegance of his wines to shine through unhindered. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrel. Jean-Claude Boisset has undergone a radical transformation since 2002. Gregory Patriat spends a great deal of his time in the vineyards, and pays the growers by the hectare, rather than by the tonnage, in order to ensure quality low yields. Each appellation has its distinctive character, yet there is also a house style: elegant and balanced, the oak underpinning the pristine and supple fruit. Description: The BourgogneChardonnay is a blend of 50% barrel fermented Ladoix, with 30% coming from the grower in Puligny who supplies the grapes for the award winning Champ Gain. The fruit from Ladoix gives a richness to the wine, while that from Puligny gives a lovely minerality. The wine has an attractive clear yellow in colour with crystalline reflections, and has a very refined nose with notes of white flowers. It is round and delicate in the mouth, with a polished acidity which lends freshness and purity. Jean-Claude Boisset has undergone a radical transformation since 2002. Description: The Bourgogne Pinot Noir from Jean-Claude Boisset has a lovely dark red colour with purple reflections and an intense perfume of black cherries and ripe fruit notes. On the palate it is well balanced, concentrated, with vibrant red fruit characters, good weight, firm tannins and a long finish. This wine comes from old vines in the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard management here is stringent and uses specific techniques to control yields such as drastic de-budding, cluster thinning if necessary, soil work, little or no use of fertiliser, and environmentally friendly vine protection. Since 2002, Mr Boisset’s son, Jean-Charles Boisset, has transformed Boisset from a traditional négociant into a viniculteur, a cross between a viticulturalist and a vinifier. Jean-Charles hired one of the best of the younger generation of winemakers to revitalise the J.C. Boisset wines, Gregory Patriat, who had spent the previous three years at Domaine Leroy.
