The winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, while they have four vineyards also owned by SherwoodEstate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island. Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, SherwoodEstate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. SherwoodEstate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the SherwoodEstate Range and the the Stratum Range. The Clearwater range represents the very best varietal single vineyard wines from SherwoodEstate's own vineyards in Waipara. This is very much a hand crafted range both in the vineyards and winery, here meticulous care is taken to ensure that the wine produced is of the highest quality and reflects each vineyard's unique characteristics or 'terroir'. The fruit was hand harvested from the West Melton vineyard and in the winery a gentle pressing was undertaken with the juice fermented and aged on lees in French oak barriques . Following a light fining and filtration the wine was bottled. Matured on the lees to give this wine its wonderful complexity and character, this Chardonnay displays richness and concentration of flavour. Tropical and stonefruit aromas are evident on the nose, while the palate is full and rounded with a long persistent finish. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £160.24

A richly concentrated white, benefiting from barrel fermentation in French oak it has a complex, nutty, mealy character in the mouth with a bright citrus fruit lift, it culminates in a long, concentrated finish with touches of mineral and honey. This Sauvignon Blanc is produced from grapes grown on SherwoodEstate's Selmes Road and Hammerichs Road vineyards in Marlborough. After harvest, the grapes went to the winery where the freerun juice portion was selected for barrel fermentation and ageing. Next, the wine spent 10 months on lees prior to blending, fining and bottling. The Clearwater Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc displays ripe passionfruit aromas supported by touches of capsicum. The Clearwater Riesling is from selected fruit at the Whitestone and Weka Creek Vineyards in Waipara. The fruit was harvested in excellent condition and selecting only the free run juice, the Riesling was cool fermented for 21 days. After an extended yeast lees contact the wine was light fined and filtered prior to bottling. This Riesling displays both delicacy and finesse. The Pinot Noir grapes were selected from the Webbs Vineyard in Marlborough and the fruit was hand harvested before going into the winery. After crushing and destemming, the fruit was transferred to four tonne open top fermenters. Over the course of the fermentation the tanks were hand plunged 4-5 times daily. Following 21 days of skin contact the fruit was pressed prior to ageing for 11 months in French oak barriques. This Clearwater Vineyard Pinot Noir is made in a traditionally Burgundian manner and captures the true essence of the variety. The nose displays rich, red berry fruit aromas integrated with careful oak handling, while on the palate it is round and full with lovely texture, silky tannin structure, opulent mouthfeel and length showing savoury on the finish. The Pinot Noir grapes were selected from three of SherwoodEstates vineyard sites in Waiparaand where the fruit was hand harvested before going into the winery. After crushing and destemming, the fruit was transferred to four tonne open top fermenters, for a 7 day pre-fermentation cool soak. Yeast was then added to initiate the start of fermentation. Over the course of the fermentation the tanks were hand plunged 3 times daily. Following 15-19 days of skin contact the fruit was pressed and aged for 12 months in French oak barriques. This Clearwater Vineyard Pinot Noir is made in a traditionally Burgundian manner and captures the true essence of the variety. The Sherwood range proudly carries the name of the winery and reflects SherwoodEstate's commitment to the highest quality. The wines are varietally focussed and come from selected parcels in the SherwoodEstate Vinyards in Marlborough and Waipara. All the fruit was hand harvested and upon arrival at the winery, the fruit was destemmed, lightly crushed and gently tipped into open top fermenters. Yeast was added to initiate the ferment after a five day 'soak' period. Three times per day the cap was hand plunged and spent an average of 16 days 'on skins'. Next, Malolactic fermentation and oak maturation was undertaken for two months prior to blending and bottling. This deep red coloured Pinot Noir displays ripe, sweet plum notes with an edge of complexity on the nose. The nose follows onto the palate complemented by the rich and rounded style supported by fine grain tannins and smooth finish. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £119.66

Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, SherwoodEstate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. SherwoodEstate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the SherwoodEstate Range and the the Stratum Range. The Stratum range is crafted by our winemaker to reflect intense varietal fruit flavours from classic varieties producing finished wines of consistently excellent quality and wide appeal. The grapes for this wine are grown in Marlborough at the Rowley Crescent vineyard and selected sites in the Awatere Valley. The fruit was harvested at night and transported to the winery. Following pressing, the juice was settled and cool fermented for 17 days. After a three month period of lees contact the different lots were blended, lightly fined and filtered prior to bottling. The Sauvignon Blanc displays abundant aromas of gooseberries and capsicum on the nose. The palate is fresh and lively showing rich concentration and a long lingering finish.
