Bodega Terrazas de los Andes CHEVAL DES ANDES Mendoza Argentina
Description: A joint venture between Chateau Cheval Blanc and Terrazas de los Andes, this wine is a groundbreaking blend of legendary, Bordeaux First Growth winemaking expertise with the very best terroir in Argentina, resulting in an elegant New World tribute to the historic art of ssemblage. Cheval des Andes is made according to the traditional methods used since the middle of the 19th century. The spirited Argentine thoroughbred has taken from Cheval Blanc its expertise in blending and its painstaking, almost craftsman-like approach. Carefully controlled yields, no use of herbicides, bunch thinning, extreme care in the working of the soil, and so on. A host of tiny gestures that are repeated over and again throughout the year and which are the traditional hallmark of the great Bordeaux wine estates. Produced from vines ageing up to 75 years and harvested by hand this wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Aged in new French oak barrels between 15 to 18 months the wine is racked every three months and when ready fined with egg whites. This wine is a deep intense ruby-red colour almost black in middle with mauve glints on the rim. The Aroma is powerful, showing warm notes of tobacco, red berry fruit macerated in brandy, cherry stones, and home-made jam, against a backdrop of oaky, slightly spicy aromas of cedar-wood, tobacco and bay leaves. The attack on the palate is full, rich and warm with lots of freshness coming through, while sweet, ripe tannins mingle harmoniously with the oak beautifully rounded off by a full, long finish. (6 x 75 cl)
