Description:
Vasse Felix was the first commercial vineyard and winery to be established in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. The vineyard took its unusual name from an early event in the district. Vasse was a French seaman who drowned last century when his longboat overturned near the site of Busselton while exploring the coastline on the ship 'Geographe' under Captain Freycinet. Paradoxically, Felix is the Latin word for fortunate or luck. Thus the name refers to a favoured place in Australia discovered by the French. This wine displays a fine, deep crimson colour with royal purple hues. A complex aroma of mulberries, fruit jubes, bay leaf and dusty Cabernet is intertwined with spicy oak. The palate is soft and rich with fine emery-like tannins and a crisp tang reflecting itÕs cool climate origins. Flavours of stewed rhubarb and cranberries leave a lasting impression long after the last sip.

The palate is fresh and lively with gooseberry and lime flavours and finishes with a minerally acidity that is refreshing. This wine is essentially ''unoaked'' however since the 2000 vintage a portion of Semillon has been fermented with French oak to further increase complexity and flavour. The wine is intensely fruity, bursting with vibrant and bright aromas and flavours making it a wine that suits the Mediterranean climate and food culture found in Australia. The term Classic Dry White was first coined in Margaret River at Vasse Felix in 1987, representing a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Paradoxically, Felix is the Latin word for fortunate or luck. Thus the name refers to a favoured place in Australia discovered by the French. This wine displays vibrant varietal shiraz characteristics, offering ripe plum and cherry liqueur flavours, combined with chocolate and mocha aromas. Classic regional savoury and white pepper characters provide complexity and lift the fruit intensity. Vanillin and sweet smokey oak aromas provide further depth and complexity to the attractive fruit profile. The wine delivers upfront fruit sweetness with soft cherry fruit. The palate fruit profile is exactly as the wine smells and provides good fruit depth and ripeness. Full bodied, supple, soft, well structured and balanced by the firm yet velvety tannin profile, the oak tannins provide subtle, grainy textures on the finish and overall added length and complexity.

Vasse Felix ADAMS ROAD Chardonnay Margaret River Western Australia
Description: Vasse Felix has been crafting Chardonnay since 1990. The aim has always been to produce a fruit driven style with subtle oak and yeast influences. The grapes are sourced from long-term contract growers throughout Western Australia. The climatic and clonal differences allow different parcels of fruit to be fermented separately in predominantly new French oak barriques. All the barrels are fermented in coolrooms at 120C to preserve the fruit flavours in the wine. The final blending occurs 11 months later with a portion of 'unoaked' Chardonnay, producing a wine of subtle oak complexity, length and mouth filling flavour.
Vasse Felix HEYTESBURY Chardonnay Margaret River Western Australia
Description: INTRODUCTION The Heytesbury Chardonnay represents the best quality chardonnay fruit for the vintage. The juice is barrel fermented in new and used French oak barriques. Winemaking techniques such as whole bunch pressing, malolactic fermentation and lees addition are used to gain a more complex array of options for blending the best possible wine. After 10 months on lees all the barrels are tasted and the process of blending begins. At the end of blending we believe we have a wine that has subtle complexity, strikingly pure fruit flavours and a full bodied mouthfeel that is clean, restrained, refreshing and completely balanced. WINEMAKERS COMMENTS Pale to mid straw in colour. Pristine, vibrant fruit aromas dance in the glass. Fruit characters of nectarine, tangerine and grapefruit enveloped with roasted nuts and crème fraiche coming from malolactic fermentation and long maturation on lees in the barrel. The palate is crisp but also creamy with a great purity of minerals and fruit. New oak has been used sparingly in this wine giving a tight structure and elegance. A wine that reflects its cool climate heritage and will develop well over 4 (6 x 75 cl) Price: £107.86
