Distell TWO OCEANS Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Western Cape South Africa
Description: Two Oceans wine takes its name from the two great oceans that converge at the Cape, the warm Indian and the bracingly cold Atlantic. The Cape’s coastal region enjoys a temperate climate, cooled by daytime maritime breezes from both oceans and a drop in night-time temperatures that allow grapes to ripen slowly – ensuring greater flavour. The Grapes are sourced from Stellenbosch, known as one of the finest wine-growing areas in the world, Wellington, Worcester as well as cooler-climate areas for pure concentration of flavour. Styled for easy drinking, the Two Oceans range of varietal and blended whites and reds shows how it is possible to fuse character with elegance to create well-proportioned wines that offer pure palate pleasure. The grapes were harvested by hand and machine, with each vineyard block being separately vinified. In each case, the juice was fermented at between 24° and 26° C. The juice was left on the skins for five days for maximum colour extraction. The skins were then removed, pressed and the pressed juice added back and then fermentation was completed. After malolactic fermentation the wine was blended in a ratio of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon to 35% Merlot. Winemaker Coenie Snyman says of this medium-bodied, smooth and very approachable wine made for early enjoyment that its nose offers ripe strawberry and cherry aromas carried through on the palate. (12 x 75 cl)

Stella Bella Wines SUCKFIZZLE Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River Western Australia

Forest Hill Winery INDIS Unoaked Chardonnay Western Australia
Description: One of Western Australia’s newest labels represents two of the state’s oldest families. Indeed, it could be said that the wines of Forrest Hill, from its 24.5ha Karriedale vineyard at the southern end of Margaret River, are steeped in history. The Indis wines are made at the Forest Hill winery by Larry Cherubino, one of Australia's most successful and highly regarded young winemakers. The Forest Hill winery was completed in 2003 and has state of the art technology to ensure a best practice approach from crushing right through to bottling. Indis offers a select range of handcrafted wines made from fruit grown in Western Australia's leading cool climate viticultural regions. Fruit is sourced exclusively from the Pemberton region of Western Australia. The proximity to the ocean produces a light breeze, which reduces the risks of frost and rot and cools the area, lengthening the ripening season and increasing the temperature ranges. The fruit is transported as quickly as possible to the brand new Forest Hill Winery in order to maintain freshness and reduce the risk of spoilage. It is gently crushed and chilled, before fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine is not aged in oak in order to protect its varietal characteristics, but bottled soon after a light filtration. Bright, white gold in colour with flashes of lime green, the nose is an aromatic fruit melange of pineapple, melon, grapefruit and citrus aromas. The palate is medium bodied and unoaked, with a crystal clear presentation of tropical fruits balanced with delightful citrus acidity and a clean, crisp finish. A Stelvin closure has been used to seal this wine to guarantee that its style and quality is exactly the same as when it left Western Australia and to reduce the risk of any cork taint. (6 x 75 cl)

Engelbrecht Els Vineyards ENGELBRECHT ELS Stellenbosch RSA
Description: While men may dream different dreams, they are driven by the same quest: to reach for, and to accomplish perfection. No two pursuits bare the truth of this more than the perfect round of golf and the perfect bottle of wine. So when Ernie and good friend Jean Engelbrecht discussed the possibility to produce a wine together, the marriage of their ideas on winemaking styles and ideas quickly transformed into a strategy based on quality and excellence, no matter what. Jean and Ernie established Engelbrecht Els Vineyards in 1999, and finally opened their dream cellar on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain in Stellenbosch in December 2004. When the friendship and expertise of their respective professions came together, Jean and Ernie set out to create an extraordinary wine. This red wine was created to celebrate the distinct palates of Ernie Els and Jean Engelbrecht as well as to crown their new venture. It was released at the opening of the Ernie Els Winery on December 15, 2004. The Engelbrecht Els vineyards are located high up on the northern slopes of the Helderberg Mountain. This imparts warmer fruit flavours to the wine, because in the summer, the vineyards' close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean result in cool sea breezes that keep temperatures lower, extending the ripening period. The different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot are kept separate throughout vinification. Half of the wines were vinified in 300 litre French oak barrels for 12 months, where the remainder is unoaked. It will undergo bottle maturation for a further 12 months underground before release. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 55%, Shiraz 21%, Merlot 4%, Petit Verdot 9%, Cabernet Franc 2% and Malbec 9% this Brick red coloured wine has an austere, cedar and pencil shavings bouquet with spicey undertones from the Shiraz component. As the wine opens up wildflower aromas can be found. Black fruit flavours are prevalent on the palate, while a delightful richness likened to Christmas cake is evident. Soft Shiraz flavours can be found on the mid-palate, with hints of farmyard, it also has great intensity experienced on the front and mid-palates. Finally the soft tannins give way to considerable length on the finish for this unique blend of six varietals. (6 x 75 cl)

Botalcura LA PORFIA Grand Reserva Chardonnay Casablanca Valley Chile
Description: Vina Botalcura is the result of the passion of two men. Chilean partner, Juan Fernando Waidele, was seduced by the charm of the town of Botalcura and its environs, and this is where the idea to build a winery started. Juan Fernando then met enologist Philippe Debrus, who had a strong desire to return to a hands-on approach to winemaking, a style he learned in his native France when he was young. The winery is named after the town it is based in, Botalcura, near Talca, about 3 hours south of Santiago, in the coastal mountain range that forms the Maule Valley. Additionally, the word Botalcura means Large Stone in Mapundungun, the language of the Mapuche people of southern Chile. A part of the Vina Botalcura land was christened many years ago with the name La Porfia. This expression alludes to those who have tenacity and perseverance, qualities that fit perfectly with the spirit in which our Grand Reserve wines are made. The wines are aged for 1 year in French and American oak, and are then bottle aged for a further year before they are released from the winery. The grapes are grown in the coastal climate of the Casablanca Valley which features morning fog that burns off by midday, hot afternoons, and soft ocean breezes in the early evening, which produce very cool nights throughout the growing season. The marked difference in daytime and night time temperatures favours the development of the characteristic aromas of the Chardonnay grape. This has produced a medium-deep golden coloured wine with pale yellow highlights. Aromas of white peach are complemented by crisp pink grapefruit and a light tropical component, while soft notes of vanilla, honey and toasted almond can be noted. This grand reserve offers a beautiful expression of the variety grown in the cool Casablanca Valley, with its characteristic white peach and tropical aromas. Fermentation in French oak barrels integrated the notes of vanilla and toast while on the mouth, the rich, buttery texture is brightened by good acidity, resulting in well-balanced, elegant Chardonnay with a long, smooth finish. (12 x 75 cl)

To complement the fruit grown on the company's own vineyards, grapes are sourced from the best areas of Chile, selecting those that fully express the intense, particular characteristics of the soils and climates from which they originate. Here great care is taken from hand picking the grapes only in the morning hours to keep fruit cool in the vine yard to winery where the wine remains in the stainless stell tanks and rests on fine lees around 4 months before being bottled. Pale yellow in colour with green reflections showing understated and elegant aromas that evoke white peaches and pears, as well as herbal notes including acacia and lavender. The palate has a lively entry, open and accessible with mouth-filling texture, a soft, subtle balance of acidity and tannins, leading into a broad but focused finish. (12 x 75 cl)
