Description:
Winemaker's Tasting Notes Bright deep ruby red. Aromas of violets, liquorices, black pepper and berry fruit with rich oak and spice characters. A lovely well balanced wine with a full palate. Liquorices and black cherry flavours, with well integrated tannins and a persistent yet soft finish. Maturation Potential Drink the wine now or leave it to still develop in character and style for up to 5 years. Maturation Grapes were selected from low-bearing vineyards, crushed and inoculated with selected yeast. Fermentation took place between 25 (12 x 75 cl)

Description: Winemaker's Description A charming wine with a vivid ruby-red colour. Delicious round, raspberry and ripe fruit nose. Ripe mulberry fruit pallet elegant tannin finish and a soft fruit driven finish. Viticulture Notes Grapes are sourced from low bearing bush vines with an average age of 4-10 years with complex, well-structured fruit. Grapes were harvested at 24ºB in February. The vines are grafted on 101-14Mgt and planted on loamy clay on the lower slopes of the mountain. Maturation The wine is fermented on skins for ñ 7 days, until the juice is drawn off at 0ºballing to retain soft tannins. Maturation takes place partly in French oak barrels, and some in tank. Description: Located in Stellenbosch, the farm of Welmoed was first granted to Governor Simon van der Stel in 1690. Over the years, many great wines have been produced in the Welmoed Cellar. Today, Welmoed maintains its proud winemaking tradition and has built up a solid reputation both in the South Africa and selected international markets with Welmoed’s distinctive carefully-crafted approach. Once harvested, the wine is pressed off skins just prior to dryness to preserve fruitiness and softness of tannins. This is followed by a malolactic fermentation after which a part of the wine is matured in French oak barrels.
