Description: Sherwood Estate is very much a family business, with Dayne and Jill Sherwood owning and operating it since the late 1980's. The winery is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, while they have four vineyards also owned by Sherwood Estate in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island. Based on nearly twenty years of growing grapes and making wine, Sherwood Estate now specialise in Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Sherwood Estate produce three ranges of wines the Clearwater Range, the Sherwood Estate Range and the the Stratum Range. The Clearwater range represents the very best varietal single vineyard wines from Sherwood Estate's own vineyards in Waipara. This is very much a hand crafted range both in the vineyards and winery, here meticulous care is taken to ensure that the wine produced is of the highest quality and reflects each vineyard's unique characteristics or 'terroir'. This Sauvignon Blanc is produced from grapes grown on Sherwood Estate's Selmes Road and Hammerichs Road vineyards in Marlborough. After harvest, the grapes went to the winery where the freerun juice portion was selected for barrel fermentation and ageing. Next, the wine spent 10 months on lees prior to blending, fining and bottling. The Clearwater Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc displays ripe passionfruit aromas supported by touches of capsicum. The aromas develop on the rich and concentrated palate leading to a long balanced finish. (12 x 75 cl)

Stellenzicht GOLDEN TRIANGLE Sauvignon Blanc Stellenbosch RSA
Description: Known initially as Rustenberg and later Alphen, this vineyard at one time belonged to the Baimsfather-Cloete family who produced the famous Constantia wines. In 1981 the estate was acquired by Hans-Joachim Schreiber who renamed it Stellenzicht or in its literal translation 'View of Stellen' . The vineyards from which the fruit was selected in crafting this wine are situated on the only south-facing portion of land on the property. Here, at an altitude of around 170 metres above sea level, the mesoclimate is ideal for the growing of top quality Sauvignon Blanc grapes. This Sauvignon Blanc displays very good balance and an elegant, yet forthcoming complexity. The classic appeal of good fruit flavours, in particular green figs, peppers and subtle asparagus, combines with an almost full-bodied mouth feel and exceptional length of this enjoyable wine. Mud House SWAN Reserve Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough NZ
Description: John Joslin was a farmer in Essex and also had a business in Belgium. Together, with his wife Jennifer, they decided to sell up and cruise the world in their custom built yacht 'Dancing Wave'. They did this for six years before dropping anchor in New Zealand. After one visit to Marlborough the yacht was sold and 20 acres in the heart of the wine growing region was bought. Marlborough was chosen for its international reputation as a premium wine-growing region with one of the longest ripening periods in the world. The vineyard was named 'Le Grys' which was Jennifer's maiden name and planted varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Finally. a unique Mud block house was built in the vineyard and hence the name of the company was born and in 1996 the first vintage was released. This wine is made from a 50:50 blend of two batches of grapes. One came from a new block harvested for the first time near the mouth of the Awatere river, known as the Castles. The other from a Mud House run vineyard on Conders Bend, very close to the original Mud House Vineyard where it all started. The grapes were machine harvested under cool early morning conditions, pressed immediately, and the resulting juice was fermented very cool retaining all the fruit characters and aromatics, without introducing harsh skin characters that result from warm handling or skin contact. This is a pale straw coloured Sauvignon Blanc with intense passionfruit and currant aromas showing notes of mineral characters. (12 x 75 cl)

Althaus STONEY VINEYARD Sauvignon Blanc Tasmania
Description: Peter and Ruth Althaus' 20ha property in the Coal River Valley in Southern Tasmania is truly remarkable in that the Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc that it produces is not just high quality but is truly of world class. Here they are producing not only the 'Stoney Vineyard' but the 'Domaine A' range of wines. Peter Althaus was formerly a business man with IBM, working in Geneva. Having developed a palate for fine European wine and a curiosity for how he could set about making it, the Althaus' set about finding a vineyard site with potential to make outstanding wines. Virtually all of the European sites had already been identified so the search was extended to the Southern hemisphere. Peter long favoured the Central Otago region of New Zealand but eventually settled on the tiny 1 hectare property that today forms Domaine A. Since 1989, when they took over the Domaine, planting has increased to 20 hectares and includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc. Vines are densely planted and the sloping North/North East aspect coupled with a temperate maritime climate ensures that the grapes have a long, cool growing season (12 x 75 cl)
