Description: The varietal is characterized by buttery, smoky aromas and powerfully intense flavors. The Pinot Gris Princes Abbés is a lush and concentrated wine with a good natural acidity. Packed with apple and tropical fruit aromas, the wine has vanilla and butter flavors with a creamy texture and a lingering spicy oak finish. The Pinot Gris, previously called Tokay d'Alsace, then Tokay Pinot Gris, is not related to the Hungarian Tokaji, which comes from the Furmint vine. It is actually a pinot of Burgundian origin known in Alsace since the 17th century. The general name Pinot Gris is the designated term from now until 2007.The Pinot Gris is an aromatic wine, sometimes velvety and vigorous, both fresh and rich, it is has good acidity and ages admirably. Palliser Estate Pinot Gris Martinborough NZ
Description: In the renowned Martinborough Terrace region Palliser Estate has approximately 85 hectares under Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris grape varieties. Palliser Estate have found that even over the relatively small area they cultivate, there are great differences in soil types and climate which all help to add complexity to the wines it crafts. The Palliser Estate brand is the Flagship range from this company with a justified international reputation. This Pinot Gris comes from the original vineyard planted in 1984 and is made in the Alsace style with grapes that were picked late with a little botrytis influence. Fermented cool to retain varietal aromas and left sur lee for 5 month to gain extra palate texture this is a sophisticated Pinot Gris. It is typically quite rich with balanced acidity and a little residual sugar. The wine has inviting aromas of ripe stone fruits and a hint of floral characters.
