Description: Part of Jackson Wine Estates, La Crema winery was founded in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer for intensely flavoured Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This wine is from the Anderson Valley known for sloping hillside benches thta are blanketed by cool fog from the nearby Pacific Ocean during the heat of the summer growing season. These moderating conditions are ideal in cultivating Pinot Noir with naturally bright acidity and delicate red cherry and cranberry fruit aromas. The Anderson Valley is Mendocino’s premier growing region for Pinot Noir and this wine used the Dijon, heirloom Martini and Pommard clones to enhance the aroma and complexity. In the vineyard fruit-thinning is undertaken to remove late flowering clusters ensuring even ripening throughout the vineyards. Next the fruit is handpicked from the cool climate vineyards and delivered to the winery in small half ton bins to protect the integrity of the fruit. Once in the winery the Pinot Noir grapes are put on to a belt delivery system with sorting table to purge damaged fruit. Here only 70% of the whole berries are selected before fermentation takes place for greater fruit expression. Next a five day, 48 degree cold soak is completed before fermentation so that it enhances the silky tannin texture. Open top fermentation with cap punch downs four times daily extracts precise colour before the wine is aged 10 months in 100% French oak barrels refines the finish. Finally the Pinot Noir is bottled unfiltered and unfined to express the pure character of this great varietal. Winemaker Melissa Stackhouse had the following comments to make about this wine: 'Exotic aromas are delicate and floral with a hint of blueberry and herbal black tea. The flavours are focused on lush dark red cherry fruit which provides an enticing plush texture. Bright acidity accented by cranberry and red cherries create a seductive fruit entry that leads to a broad lingering finish.' (6 x 75 cl) Price: £102.48

For 18 years we've studied Carneros and its relationship to our vines. With this knowledge of our terroir as a guide, the estate Pinot Noir gains complexity and consistency with each passing year. One of our most exceptional wines to date, this Pinot Noir exhibits a range of complex aromas, graceful fruit characteristics and a silken texture on the palate. DESCRIPTION The bouquet opens with aromas of ripe cherry and boysenberry, gradually revealing a complex earth element and spicy toast notes in the background. The palate is supple and balanced, with flavors that mirror the aromas through an extended finish. WINEMAKING • 100% Estate grapes • Colmar, Wadenswil, Trefethen, Dijon 115, Martini, UCD 32, Pommard and Jackson clones were chosen for the blend • Individual vineyard lots were destemmed, gently crushed and cold-soaked for three days to extract color and aromas • A variety of traditional and modern maceration techniques were employed during fermentation to extract fruit character without bitterness • Only free run wine was used to create the final blend • The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barrel and was not racked in order to preserve the inherent delicacy • Barrel aged for nine months in 100% French oak barrels coopered by Francois Frères, Billon, Cadus and Damy among others • Bottled unfined (6 x 75 cl) Price: £96.09
