Kingston Estate SARANTOS Soft Press Shiraz South Eastern Australia
Description: Kingston Estate Wines has grown rapidly since Sarantos and Constantina Moularadellis first developed their 40 acre vineyard in 1979 in South Australia's Riverland wine region. Today, Kingston is the 10th largest wine producer in Australia and remains one of Australia's largest family-owned wineries. Sarantos, named after one of Kingston Estate owners is an easy drinking range of wines. Using only the best quality fruit and adopting the practice of soft pressing so that only free run juice is used in the winemaking process. This has resulted in a range of wines showing full fruit characters. This is a rich and warming wine style with infinite drinkability. Grapes were selected from vineyards throughout South Australia including the Clare Valley, Adelaide Plains and the Riverland. Parcels of fruit which showed generous fruit concentration were identified and treated in the Soft Press winemaking style. After crushing the grape skins were handled gently to maximize the variety's pure and clean flavours during the ensuing fermentation process. Only a small portion of the wine was matured with American and French oak with the intention being to allow maximum fruit expression and the oak adding subtle complexity. The Sarantos Shiraz is a deep plum red colour while on the nose it has rich licorice, chocolate, plums, dark berry fruits and subtle spiciness and is very much like a warm Christmas fruit pudding. These attractive flavours continue onto the palate and are fused with soft charry characters and maraschino cherries. For all its depth of flavour and intensity it has surprisingly soft tannins and acid, typical of the 'Soft Press' style. (12 x 75 cl)
