Chateau Fleur de Rol Grand Cru St Emilion
Description: Fleur de Rol employs the ubiquitous Michel Rolland as a consultant. The grapes are harvested by hand and after destemming, the wine is vinified traditionally in cement-epoxy vats with frequent temperature controls. The wine is then aged for 12 to 18 months in high quality oak barrels of which one third are new. This is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc producing lots of charred, smoky oak on the big, bold and ambitious nose with bags of tar and black fruit. The skin extract is very evident and there is plenty of toasty vanilla flavours from the oak with dark fruit and tar again on the palate. While there is a grippy, confident finish. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £300.75

Chateau Pey la Tour Reserve Bordeaux Superieur Haut Medoc
Description: Chateaude la Tour is situated 15km east of Bordeaux, on the higher ground above the village of Salleboeuf. The ruins of the medieval castle once owned by Pope Clement V from which the Chateau takes its name can be found in the grounds. Since 1990 the property has been taken over by Dourthe part of the CVBG Dourthe Kressmann group. Under their ownership a huge amount of investment has taken place in the vineyards and in the cuverie and the legendary Michel Rolland now oversees the winemaking. The vineyards now extend to 104 hectares entirely dedicated to the production of red wines. A blend of 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 65% Merlot and sourced from 145ha of vineyard in which the vines are trained 2.2m from the ground in order to obtain optimum ripeness by reducing the shadow on the bunches. Treatment of vineyard is after analysis and only as required. The wine is fermented using modern methods; a pneumatic press is used for crushing, stainless steel vats and temperature control systems are employed when fermenting the individual parcels, and ageing is for 15 to 16 months in new barrels before blending. Mellow nose, with aromas of dense, fleshy fruit. This bordeaux is tasty and rich, with surprising concentration, good purity and depth, low acidity and plump fleshy fruit. Solid mouthfeel and excellent length. Available in half bottles. (12 x 37.5 cl) Price: £203.29
