Mud House SWAN Reserve Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough NZ
Description: John Joslin was a farmer in Essex and also had a business in Belgium. Together, with his wife Jennifer, they decided to sell up and cruise the world in their custom built yacht 'Dancing Wave'. They did this for six years before dropping anchor in New Zealand. After one visit to Marlborough the yacht was sold and 20 acres in the heart of the wine growing region was bought. Marlborough was chosen for its international reputation as a premium wine-growing region with one of the longest ripening periods in the world. The vineyard was named 'Le Grys' which was Jennifer's maiden name and planted varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Finally. a unique Mud block house was built in the vineyard and hence the name of the company was born and in 1996 the first vintage was released. This wine is made from a 50:50 blend of two batches of grapes. One came from a new block harvested for the first time near the mouth of the Awatere river, known as the Castles. The other from a Mud House run vineyard on Conders Bend, very close to the original Mud House Vineyard where it all started. The grapes were machine harvested under cool early morning conditions, pressed immediately, and the resulting juice was fermented very cool retaining all the fruit characters and aromatics, without introducing harsh skin characters that result from warm handling or skin contact. This is a pale straw coloured Sauvignon Blanc with intense passionfruit and currant aromas showing notes of mineral characters. (12 x 75 cl) Price: £172.03

Turner TINPOT HUT Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc NZ
Description: The Tinpot Hut Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a concentrated and complex wine with powerful passionfruit and blackcurrant flavours, with underlying grapefruit and mineral notes. This wine is pleasingly rich and powerful with a well balanced acidity that leads to a long lingering finish. Winemaker Fiona Turner has worked with Matt Thomson on many of the most successful wines made in Marlborough. The tinpot hut that gave its name to Fiona’s brand is an old mustering hut in the remote hills between the Wairau and Awatere Valleys. These huts were used as a base for musterers, who were responsible for rounding up the sheep that had been in the hills from spring to autumn and bringing them down to the low paddocks for the winter. Fiona sourced the fruit primarily from her own vineyard in Blind River and combined it with grapes from some other carefully selected sites in Marlborough. After juice clarification, the wine was inoculated with pure, aromatic yeast strains and cool fermented. Once dry the wine was stabilised, filtered and bottled. (6 x 75 cl) Price: £57.53

Richard Hamilton HUT BLOCK Cabernet McLaren Vale South Australia
Description: Made from 100% Estate owned fruit from the McLaren Vale wine region of South Australia, the 'Hut Block' vineyard is planted on an open lace in free draining soils, unusual amongst the clay and loams of the district. This produces a wine of intense berry aroma and flavour. The 'Hut Block' is named after the old 'pickers' hut, which has sat on the property for over fifty years. The wine is a blend of Cabemet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc matured in selected French and American Oak casks for twelve months prior to bottling. Traditionally the wine is deeply coloured, with ripe berry flavours, a full rich, robust wine balanced with a supple mid palate and a fine tannin finish. This wine is a full dense red colour with vibrant crimson highlights and an intense ripe Cabernet Sauvignon nose with excellent expression of fine oak. Clean and vibrant, this is a great example of full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon from McLaren Vale. On the palate the varietal characters from the nose follow through on the palate to give a wine of great length. The wine finishes cleanly with tannins, acidity and flavour in harmony.
