During the Middle Ages a small church was erected along the antique Domitian Way between Nimes and Montpellier in the heart of Languedoc Roussillon and named Saint-Paul de Cabrieres. Out of respect to this bygone monument the domain that was built on its ruins bears its name today: Chateau Gres-Saint Paul. Property of the Serviere family since 1830, the 26 ha of vineyards are situated in the commune of Lunel bordering the Mediterranean Sea and overlooking the Camargue and Etang de L'Or. The annual rainfall ranges betwween 600 and 700 mm with uneven distribution where there are 50 to 70 rainless days in summer. During the scorching summer heat the terroir benefits from the evening cool breezes off the nearby Mediterranean Sea, while this cool microclimate at an altitude of almost 50 meters allows the wine to obtain extremely fine aromas. This wine is a blend of 80% Syrah, 10% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre and is aged one third in new oak, one third in old oak and one third in tank. It is an enjoyable deep red coloured wine with blackberry aromas that complement this dense, medium-bodied wine. The fruit develops on the palate while the complex structure and tannins are evident before leading to a long finish. (12 x 75 cl)
