Villa Maria SINGLE VINEYARD Pinot Gris Awatere Marlborough NZ
Description: Single Vineyard wines are created from vineyards of exceptional quality when vintage conditions allow these sites to fully express their individual characteristics. The Seddon Pinot Gris Vineyard is perched high on the southern bank of the Awatere River. A warm site, it is cooled by evening winds off the slopes of Mt Tapuae-OUenuku. The Pinot Gris is planted on free draining sandy silt loams, overlaying aged gravels on a papa base. Winemaking The Seddon Pinot Gris is grown at very low yields and harvested at full ripeness ensuring the production of an intensely aromatic and richly full bodied wine. Winemaker's Comments Lifted florals and pear characters enrich the bouquet. On the palate it is richly concentrated with intense flavour and extract. This wine has a roundness and flintiness that will develop with bottle age. (6 x 75 cl)

Grove Mill Pinot Gris Marlborough NZ
Description: The grapes for this wine were harvested on 5/4/99 and 6/4/99 with an average of 21.4 brix and an acid level of 6.5g/l. Fermentation over 25 days at a cool 10 degrees Celsius to retain maximum natural fruit flavours, followed by a complete malolactic fermentation to add palate weight. Bottled from 10/8/99 to 11/8/99. The resulting wine has 12.5% alcohol, 14.5 grams per litre residual sugar and 6.8 grams per litre titratable acidity. The philosophy behind Grove Mill wines is that they are made to be the best they can be. Deliberate fruit orientation with a full bodied richness and concentration to the point of balance defines the style. Determining vineyards, selecting their fruit at harvest and keeping only the wines with the best structure, flavours and fragrances ensures the Grove Mill philosophy is exercised. Pinot Gris is a grape variety from the Pinot family. Pinots have great structure and texture, giving generous, weighty mouth feel and the ability to age well. The wine has classic aromas of peach and nectarine with a spicy ginger nuance characterising its Marlborough origins. www.webnz.com/grovemill (12 x 75 cl)
