Organic. A big, punchy and earnest red wine laced with rich fruit flavours from a blend of mainly Sangiovese with 20% Cabernet Franc. Well rounded and powerful with excellent balance, lots of potent character and a lengthy finish. Aged in new oak barriques for 15 months before bottling, the wine may be drunk now of kept to good advantage for several years to further mellow and develop. (12 x 75 cl)

Description: Proprietress Rosanna Antoniolo owns vineyards in the Gattinara crus of 'Osso San Grato,' 'San Francesco,' and 'Castelle' along with her son and daughter. The small DOCG of Gattinara is located far north of the Barolo/ Barbaresco zones in the Alpine foothills close to Lago Maggiore. The soils of this region are more acidic than those of the Langhe, which, paired with the cooler climate and altitude, results in highly fragrant, elegant wines. Few estates remain in this historic northerly zone, but tenacious Antoniolo, established in 1949, is surely the most dynamic being the first producer in the DOCG to bottle cru wines, it also bottles 100% Nebbiolo without blending in other varietals. The San Francesco vineyards were planted about fifty years ago on glacial soil and volcanic soils . Maceration on the skins in cement vats for 14-16 days, with pumping over followed by maturation for one year in 350-500 litre tonneaux and 18 months in large oak casks . This red is showing notes of liquorice, rose, raspberry on the nose while soft spiciness intermingle in a pervasive aromatic profile.
