Redbank THE LONG PADDOCK Sauvignon Blanc Victoria Australia
Description: Redbank’s badge, the Anvil, is a symbol of times gone by when the early settlers handcrafted their farming implements with the heat of the blazing forge and the strength of the anvil. This strength was apparent in the hard working migrants who established a thriving farming community in the rugged High Country of North East Victoria. Today a small, select 'family' of growers, some direct descendents of the original pioneers, produce premium fruit for the wines of Redbank. Vineyards that are lashed by blizzardly cold winter winds and buried in snow for part of the year emerge at harvest with grapes of the highest quality that enable the Redbank winemakers to produce superb cool climate wines. The Long Paddock Sauvignon Blanc has a lifted nose of tropical fruits, spice and gooseberry. It has a layered rich palate of gooseberry, citrus and passionfruit. The weight of the fruit on the mid palate is balanced by crisp zingy acid, which gives freshness. It has lovely length and finishes with spice and tropical fruits. The Long Paddock wines honour the ingenuity and courage of the early Australian drovers. Inflicted with cruel and regular droughts, these men and women faced the option of giving up and starving along with their cattle and sheep or flinging open their boundary gates and allowing their stumbling, starving stock to roam the bush roads and tracks in the desperate hope of finding food and water. Somewhere. Anywhere. This was known as 'droving the Long Paddock', a task that could take them away from their family and home for months and months. Sometimes even years. Fortunately some stock was saved. Unfortunately for some, when the rains didn’t come the heartbreak of seeing their stock die became a regular occurrence. Inspired by the courage of these brave pioneers, Redbank began sourcing selected fruit from many of Victoria’s premium wine growing regions. This was the beginning of the Long Paddock tradition. Today, Redbank selects much of its fruit for our Long Paddock wines from the high altitude King and Ovens Valleys in Victoria’s North East. (6 x 75 cl)

Redbank THE FUGITIVE Cabernet Sauvignon King Valley Victoria Australia

Vineyards that are lashed by blizzardly cold winter winds and buried in snow for part of the year emerge at harvest with grapes of the highest quality that enable the Redbank winemakers to produce superb cool climate wines. Fruit for the King Valley wines is harvested from vineyards which sit at nearly 800 metres above sea-level and the Fruit from high altitude vineyards has been blended with a small portion of warmer valley floor fruit. The cool climate fruit has fine grained tannins and aromatic fruit flavours, the warmer valley floor fruit adds richness and complexity before spending up to 32 months in French oak. Deep rich red in colour it has a lifted nose displaying distinctive varietal characteristics; blackcurrant and plums with touches of the eucalypt and mint so typical of the King Valley. The Fugitive Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich balanced wine, with elegant tannins and supple mouth feel. Distinctive Cabernet with cassis fruits, and spice the integrated French oak is showing charr and vanilla giving way to a long spicy finish. This King Valley wine was inspired by the history of Victori and in the 19 th Century, the Australian Bushranger roamed the harsh mountainous country of North East Victoria. These expert horsemen became fugitives from the police as they plundered mail coaches and rich gold trains and stole prize livestock from wealthy landowners. Stealing from the rich … and sometimes, giving to the poor. Legends were born with men like Ned Kelly, Captain Thunderbolt and other colourful characters leading authorities a merry dance.
Redbank THE ANVIL Shiraz Heathcote Victoria Australia

The Anvil Shiraz has a lifted nose showing blackberry and mulberry, with violets and white pepper. The nose displays the regionality of the wine, with the complexity coming from touches of chocolate, tobacco leaf and toasted oak. The palate is elegant with the sweet blackberry fruit balanced by very fine, silky tannins. The flavours are of spice, chocolate and well integrated French oak, with a mouthwatering finish. Heathcote is very different to the other high altitude vineyards used for most of the wines from Redbank. The climatic conditions in and around Heathcote region are tough. Recent prolonged drought and severe frosts have tested the resolve of the hardy grape grower. However, low rainfall, warm days and cool nights provide ideal conditions for ripening the Shiraz fruit. Redbank THE WIDOW JONES Viognier King Valley Victoria Australia
The Viognier fruit was sourced from a single vineyard in the King Valley that boasts deep grey alluvial loams with good drainage leading to modest vigour, perfect for growing varieties such as Viognier. The grapes were hand picked and chilled to maximise aromatics before whole bunch pressing and running into barrel for wild fermentation. The wine was left in barrel on lees to maximise complexity until bottling. The Widow Jones Viognier is a pale gold colour with green tints. It exhibits a classical Viognier nose of white flowers, ripe apricots, fresh cream and ginger. The layered palate entwines ripe fruit with honey, sweet oranges and spice. A luscious wine that is rich but well balanced with zingy acid and great length. These King Valley wines were inspired by the history of Victoria. Long ago it was littered with long abandoned miners camps and long forgotten mine shafts that gave little to the battling prospector of the 1850s gold rush. During the same time notorious bushrangers roamed the high country of North East Victoria robbing the gold and mail coaches and stealing the valuable livestock of wealthy land owners. None was more famous than the legendary Ned Kelly. To some, Ned and his gang were folk heroes as their lightning hit and run skirmishes with the law, brilliant horsemanship and knowledge of the rugged bush continually frustrated the police and local authorities. Redbank SUNDAY MORNING Pinot Gris King Valley Victoria Australia
Fruit for the King Valley wines is harvested from vineyards which sit at nearly 800 metres above sea-level, covered in snow in winter and shrouded in cloud. The fruit was 100% hand picked and chilled, which minimised any unwanted colour or phenolics. Very gentle whole bunch pressing captured the delicate aromatics of the Pinot Gris. The juice was 70% cool fermented in stainless steel and 30% barrel fermented with some barrels undergoing malolactic fermentation for added complexity. The Sunday Morning Pinot Gris has a lifted delicate nose redolent with ripe pear, rose petals and spice. The palate is finely balanced with florals, clove spice and pear fruit, finishing with mouthwatering acidity and typical Pinot Gris texture.
