Description: This Carmenere has an intense, dark red colour and expressive nose of wild fruit aromas, ripe berries and sweet floral notes. The wine is aged for 12 months in new French medium toast barrels giving the wine spicy and vanilla notes whilst maintaining excellent balance and fruit flavours such as gooseberry, wild strawberry, truffle and game. Description: Vina Portal del Alto was established in 1970 by Alejandro Hernandez, professor of Oenology at Santiago University. The estate now consists of four vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. Alejandro Hernandez is currently the President of the OIV , the most important international Organisation of vitiviniculture based in Paris, France. He is also co-author of 'The Vines and Wines of Chile', published in 1986 and author of 'Wine and Vineyards of Chile' in 1993. In his professional practice he also acts as consultant to other Chilean vineyards and the Ministry of Agriculture. He produces all the wines of Portal del Alto himself and has a collection of world-wide awards for his wines, including 'Best 50 Vineyards' by the International Wine Magazine in 1996 (12 x 75 cl)

Description: This Fairtrade red wine is 100% hand harvested Carmenere grapes that are aged between four to six months in American oak barrels. This has produced an intense plummy red coloured wine with an elegant, fine, fruity aroma of berries and plums, with notes of chocolate, caramel and pepper.
