Gernot Heinrich Zweigelt Burgenland Austria
Description: This Zweigelt is soft, forward and instantly accessible in style. It has a smoky, spicy nose with notes of ripe morello cherries, vanilla and tobacco. Full and vibrant on the palate, the wine has superb colour with plenty of juicy fruit, good acidity and supple tannins. The wine has added structure from brief barrique ageing. Gernot Heinrich is working with native Austian varieties in his 30 hectares of vineyard to produce wines with clean yet intriguing perfumes and nice balance on the palate. The vineyards are situated southeast of Vienna in the Neusiedlersee area, in Austria’s easternmost province, only a few kilometres from the Hungarian border. Heinrich’s specialty for Zweigelt was highlighted this year when the 2006 vintage won a place on the shortlist for the 2008 Sommelier Wine Awards. Once again, this wine is sealed under a Vinolok closure to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition. (6 x 75 cl)
